From my experience with Istanbul I can't see cooling thuban being a major issue.

I've not overclocked or anything but under load and water I don't see temps much high that 28c on the first CPU in my loop. Its 32c on the second CPU as well according to everest. I think you'll probably be able to get the most out of your thuban with a good aircooler and a bit more with water.

Be interested to see if thuban likes the cold as much as the current AM3 lineup.

guys, ever tried a Japanese HS ?
I'd tried one b4 named "Ninja" & that works as good as my Thermalright 120ex....& no powerful fan needed
    http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/cp...scnj1000p.html

A new model "XASXA" was sent to me for testig. It has 6 copper heat pipes, OTB fan with speed controller & enhanced outlook
Gonna try some serious torture tests for that HS..HeHeHe

    Istnabul R10 64-bit...so, if Thuban will simillary, than at 4GHz will score about 4375x5.68 = 24 850B ! (between 22-26 000)

That's only a renamed EKL Nordwand, which has been in the market for quite long actually.

    something is odd here.
the istanbul based opteron, whose results were already posted earlier, had a speedup of 5,68, while this one only has 4,58.
the results for the 32-bit CB bench are lower than for 64bit, i'm aware of that, but the speedup is comparable iirc.

and btw., EKL is not the odm/oem of their heatpipe coolers, they are just selling them under their label.
you can find all coolers of the EKL lineup at other brands as well.

the 4.58x speedup is cuz of turbo feature, single thread performance is at 1x3.3ghz, multithread is 6x2.8ghz i believe

Tomasis, for now quick comparison in idle, 4.0GHz cpu temp Big Typhoon 36°C, water setup 32°C, Noctua 28°C...

FlanK3r, my first reaction when I saw the box was WTF?! Huge cooler! Just looking at him is very impressive!

I'm benching right now, I want to find the best combination with two rigs, H50 with i7 920 at 3.8 is bad, people say 4.2 with noctua np, so I want to find out what is the best possible option for me, better gaming or better working rig... Possible problem is Antec midi tower, it is ok with A+ big tower so I have to think what to do... Anyway, I think Thuban will be happy with Noctua when he comes, that's for sure!

cel303, interesting, im waiting for your bench results, temp etc big size is annoying for me but I guess there is room for compromises. can u check the height of noctua so i can see if it can fit in my case :P

I wonder if my Ultra 120 Extreme with Silverstone FM122 will handle Thuban well ( I am looking for 3.2GHz Top model )
From my previous experience with Phenom x4 9850BE (125W TDP) and 9950BE (125W TDP) , it handles "Okay" and keep the full load CPU under 65C
