Unlock _what_ potential precisely? IMO you are wasting your time. Voltmods are useful and this is not.

for example, if the x850 has different/stronger signalling levels than an x800xl, then if possibly changing those levels to the same as the x850 could provide a means to increase the clock of the core or memory (much like changing the LDT or chipset voltage on a mb), then it's not wasting time.

There is always hidden potential in any card. It's just whether or not it's found. And how can it be found if no one "wastes" time finding it?

besides, why are you so worried about *MY* time and whether or not something is worthwhile or not? I'm personally after a molex mod, and if I can get some good hi-res pics of the molex areas of cards that have a molex, then the mod should be easy. Whether or not it provides a means for more power to extend an overclock farther...that's to be seen...but we'll never know until we "waste" time finding out.

I think a molex mod would be a worthy thing to try

Well, I am in a different situation. I will be probably keeping a X800XT Engineering Sample, so that has need for a molex more than X800XL

did you read that from the photo? I zoomed in and brightened it up a bit and could only make out the 3AB...you're good!

    :EDIT: think this is it?
    http://www.diodes.com/datasheets/ds14003.pdf

If so, then the 444 on the top line would indicate 2004, week 44, and the S3AB would mean the product code with the B indicating SMB packaging. And that chinese looking symbols are just the manufacturer's markings.

sorry, I didn't fully understand your english. Do you mean that you need a spec sheet for some 22v/16v components on the backside of the card (back of the core) because some are broken on yours?

if not, could you edit/send/upload a photo of the area/part?

I've got to get to work, but I'll try to check during the day if I can.

I found a few other diodes on a wrecked 9800Pro, but i dunno if they're compatible to the ones on the X850.

yeah, those are caps. Diodes are indicated on the circuit board by a Dxxx (xxx being the number). Caps are indicated by C's, and so on. Those diodes are only $.89 at Mouser.com...so I may just order some this week.

Well, that's why i asked...at least they looked similar and so i assumed it could be diodes (did't look for the specs yet).
    Thanx, Ivan!

Could you please post the specs for the diodes as they're listed at mouser, NST?
I'll try to find a comparable one here in germany...

    Done!

    Ok, im done.

Found the diodes on a wrecked 9800Pro and also some other resistors i needed.
    Card runs fine at 460/560.
Most stable before the molex-mod was 455/534 so it helped a lot on mem speed but not much gain on gpu.

The molex connector is originally a standard atx mainboard connector which i cut off to the right size.

(note: the yellow marked components were soldered in)

    DAMN! beaten to it :p

    Nice work too

definately good to see that our time wasn't "wasted" on something so "trivial" as a molex on an x800xl

? for you though...are those diodes the same as are on the x850 pic? I found some at work, but the were only rated for 1A, and I didn't want to put a 1A part on a circuit that had 3A in design.

wow... that's awesome... so all you did was take a standard mobo atx plug, cut it up so that it'd fit one of those 6 pin pci-e adapters...

so besides soldering onto the soldering pads is there anything else that needs to be done?

Very nice! I may be doing that on my X800XT PCI-E which doesn't have the plug!

    Thanx, NST!
I had 3 wrecked 9800Pro cards here (got them from a friend with a computer store). Each of them had one of these diodes (identical to X850 only different date) on it...what a coincidence.

Right, just solder in the yellow marked thingys and that's 'all'.
I got this image from a friend.
Unfortunately he mixed up some info on the resistors.
That little 3 pin mosfet was taken from a wrecked mobo - correct label is '1AMu' and the resistors labeled 'E01' and '103' are in fact identical - only soldered in 180° turned.

    damn...wish I had a couple dead 9800's
shipping on those S3AB diodes is more than the damn diodes themselves! So I'm looking for another mfr that makes super-fast 50v 3A diodes/rectifiers that will take a "sample" order. Those are usually cheap for the parts and shipping is usually free

btw...does anyone know what the characteristics of that 1AMU transistor are? I can't find any of those on all my parts. The closest I found was a 1A
