chevette < corvette, you do the math. max top speed on aa8xe was 5.6Ghz benchable. Max benchable FSB 321

Ran some 2K1 and it makes my EE look bad. AM3 doesnt like the X850XT PE.

Nothing. The 925XE is simply qualified to run 1066 MHz FSB by Intel.

Since Intel have implemented a 10% overclock limitation in all their 900 chipsets the 925XE have an advantage because it's native 266MHz = 292MHz FSB is max on a regular board and 915/925X are limited at 220MHz on a regular. Most motherboard makers have made a workaround with the limitation so that 350MHz FSB (and lately 400MHz FSB reached on Abit 925XE by Shamino) are reachable, but only with 925XE. The 925X can't go beyond 250-270MHz FSB (except for the DFI 925X - seems to go 300MHz I remember Fugger mentioned he reached).... the 925X motherboard does not have a working PCI-E lock as well like MOST 925XE.

I don't think it's the 925X's fault it don't overclock that well compared to the 925XE. I think that it took the motherboardmakers to long to learn how to manage the PCI-E and the 10% limitation workaround to reach those speeds... now they've learned and there are some good 925XE out there. Maybe later revisions of the 925X will just as good if they wanna re-engineer them.

I have tested a few DFI 925X boards and they reach 299FSB without any problems. These are the only 925x boards that I can confirm that dont have an oc limitation other than topping out at 299FSB exactly.

Did you have to disable any onboard components to reach the 299? I know that on some 915P motherboards you have to disable onboard NIC (if it's attached to the PCI-E) to reach a FSB of just 250MHz and then the PCI-Express bus won't be useable for peripherals... 915P and 925X should be in the same boat when thinking of the limitation.

..maybe. My impression is that you have to disable a lot of peripherals to overclock because of a PCI-Express bus wich is'nt locked at 100MHz. Maybe Fugger can confirm this is'nt the case on all 925X's
