It is unfortunate, as many other forums on this subject refer to you as the expert. Thanks for all your work.Originally Posted by t024484
BTW, do you still feel that a vMod to 1.4 would be an issue for wear and tear on the GPU now that the source of 7900GT problems has been found in the memory?
I know that there is a difference as the card will not switch between 1.2v and 1.4v, but the major hardware mods to enable the switching are beyond my abilities.
I think that 1.4 and even 1.5 Volt is OK, but if you have a choice it is even better to switch back to 1.2 V in 2D.Originally Posted by chas0039

My impression has always been, and still is, that the GPU is to blame.
The 7950 with a different type branding, seems have an improved G71.
So buying a 7950GT or a 7950GX2 seems to be the best thing to do as long as the G80 is to be expected.
Just for those asking for the pictures, here they are again.

Thanks for the answers. Almost everything I have read concerning the new series of EVGA cards is positive and no one seems to be experiencing anything like the failures of the old 7900GTs so maybe they did something to the GPU as well. In any case, I am very content at 1.4v and 625MHz and I seem to be running smoothly. As always, keep fingers crossed.
I just did the vmem "pencil-mod" on my eVGA 7900GT RoHS & I modded the rezistor to a 567ohm value. Before the mod I had 599/2040MHz (benchable) and now I have reached 599/2100 (alos benchable). I believe it's a little less then I expected, but in the folowing days I will also do the vGPU mod to reach 1,4V.
Cheers.![]()
With a Mem frequency of 2040 Mhz, I see no reason whatsoever to do a voltmod.Originally Posted by korby

I hoped for a higher frecvency, but it I see that it doesn't make a big difference.Originally Posted by t024484
This v-mod is for benches... I may not have the latest PC, but I always liked to overclock & bench it. Ask the guys from crazypc.ro about this.
PS: I lowered it to 561 ohms. This is the final value, but i'll test later.

We got a new shippment of Asus 7900GT on a blue PCB and using Hynix ram chips...
Will report next week how they do...

Woah your mem can do 1020Mhz un modded?!?! in insanely amazing!!! so lucky..
anyway,
im wondering how much the delta clock on the geometric core affect overall overclocking and overall lifespan of the card, the defualt delta on inno3d cards are +20.. i did change it to +50 and my 05 score jumped about 210 points..
Just for benching...Originally Posted by Demo

But I can play games and all others @ 970MHz without problems.![]()
so 1020 for gaming produces artifacts??
Yes, and believe it will also start to freeze, I haven't tried to play games. Only benches. For games I use standard frequencies because I don't need more. In the future I will overclock it in games too.Originally Posted by Demo

still 920 for stock voltage.. i can only do 810 at stock voltages.. so im running it at 800
I am having trouble measuring resistance on resistor K on my 7900GS. I shut off power, removed the board, then put both points on my multimeter on opposite sides of the resistor and did not get any readout. It doesnt matter if I put black prong to a ground or anything. What am I doing wrong here? I have the multimeter set to 200K and i get no reading, when I put it down to the lowest setting, I get a readout of .06, which happens to be the same resistance if I touch the two prongs together.......
I'm sure I'm overlooking something or just doing something stupid.....

I believe you are talking about the 7900GS. Here's a test (in romanianOriginally Posted by Shark-357

I cannot think of any other reason than that you are measuring the wrong resistor.Originally Posted by Ramen

Well, I figured out the problem, it was a bad multimeter. Went out to RadioShack and bought a new one, and I can measure resistance fine. Weird =(
After doing the Resistor K mod, as well as Vmem I am still having trouble with my 7900GS. In fact, it did not help things at all. My memory keeps crapping out on 3D06 Deep Freeze......reallly irritating me, and I'm nearly out of options. I have passed Deep Freeze at 700/700, any higher on the memory and it is a screen full of artifacts at the end. If I drop core down to 600, the memory still artifacts on Deep Freeze at not even 725MHz....
Guess I can't really complain having picked up this card for $145..

Red = +0.05 volt
Yellow = +0.1 volt
Purple +0.2Volt.

So 1.5 Volt (my advice) is Yellow + Purple
!.55 Volt is R+Y+P.
You do not have to solder, conductive paint will do.
Thank you .

Dunno if this has been posted, those of you who hate running 3rd party programs or even Rivatuner/built-in OCing tool in the driver ( both programs give me a ton of alt+tab problems ) if your brave enough to mod the bios clocks i say do so.. as the software based overclock doesnt revert the ram speed back to 2D mode, i reflashed my bios with a different 3D clock values and during 2D mode it reverts it to reference 7900GT core and mem speed.
Anyone have the original pictures from the #1 post?
Hi,
anyone having the Palit/Xpertvision 7900GS?

Where is the area shown in the above picture - I guess I'm blind...Or does the layout differ?
