hi just sold my qx9650 shall I go for a q9650 or e8600 which one for gaming longterm. And are they both about even when it comes to water overclockng any template can you please pm them to me so it makes life Easier to decide thanks David
Slov: I was sort of lucky today. I found out that my ordered Mushkins are out of stock at K&M's main store and can't be shipped to the local one anytime soon. I ordered four 1 GB Corsair XMS3-1600 RAMs instead. I guess this should circumvent the issue, right? Or is it the same for 4x1 GB as for 2x2 with this stupid chipset bug?
Four modules seem to be the better choice for the future Nehalems anyway, them having triple channel RAM....
Amurtigress: Those corsairs are fine to use with this board and have been since 1st release bios.
I myself use them in 2x1gb. Quick pic for show. Xmp profile works but don't use it, they'll clock further with less timings at the same voltage.
Good luck with the kit and let us know of your speeds and voltages.
I have a 1.25vid... it run cold...
I'm trying to start 600 x 7 with p5q3 dl but i can't for now.
I'm using.
600x7 @ 1.3 vcore
1.9 vdimm -
VFSB 1.4
VNB 1.4
NB GTL REF 0.545
try with more vcore
try with more VNB
try with more VFSB
and try with PL 12 and nothing..
Any idea?
The batch it's Q820a324 and waffer is 0149

hi
what's your memory divider and nb strap?
1,4v to fsb is high imho
and what proc? the e8600 in your sig?

try more vnb. I'm doing great at 1.6v for 490 quad fsb, but for 600 you might want like 1.7 ish...idk. though you might want to point a fan or two at it--the heatsinks aren't great.

Hi,
thanks a bunch. At least I know now I am not going to run into trouble again. I ordered two sets, means four modules. I don't expect my Q9300 to go far beyond 450 MHz FSB tho. It clocks at app. FSB436 on my Maximus board at 1.55V, but one voltage notch on the NB more or less and it begins to freeze.
What's the average voltages for the NB Core at 450 MHz? The X38 /Maximus Formula required roughly 1.51V, and 1.55V with four DIMMs. FSB 500 required about 1.61V on a E6600 B2. The P45 is a 65 nm dieshrink, so the odds are it'll require less voltage.
What are the experiences about the two GTL references on the FSB when using a quadcore? Is it any use to go away from the 0.63/0.67 defaults?
Ace80: My modules are the ones without XMP profile but I don't shed a tear anyway. They should be identical otherwise. It'll also be interesting how overclockable they still are when using four pieces of them.
Anyway, I will keep you updated! The modules are due to arrive in 1-2 days.

you say 1.6volts on VNB? right?
I have this cooling over my tablebench see it
3 x 1200 mm directly to mother, ram, vga, cpu
iMac 24''

i think you mean 120mm =]
well, that's a lot more organised cooling than mine... I'll post a pic when I get home, but lets just say things are a little tangled. What I mean is you might want to strap or otherwise place a small high cfm fan blowing directly on the nb hs. while the cooling you have seems to be a nice blunt force solution, more strategic placement might be beneficial. you want the greatest amount of airflow around the nb/cpu/mosfet region. RAM cooling is least important (at least for most OC purposes), and modified VGA cooling is optional to say the least in a bench-type setup, though more important in a closed case environment. but i digress on cooling...
yes 1.6vnb seems to be my sweetspot for higher fsb. and like i said before, this board likes its auto settings for the most part, so try and start by leaving those and then figuring out what you need to set manually. I've found that NB is really the only thing it's shy on, and I just lower the CPU voltage from it's auto because I can. but each case is different.

Thanks.. bro. i'll try setting only VDRAM, VCORE, VNB, and few more things and all other set AUTO...
By the way i have active cooling over the ram, and over de NB i don't have anything because i thought 3x120 mm will be enague, if i put my hand in the area i can feel the flow air... fress air :p
When i'll bench hardest i'll had 2x80 mm over it right? jajajaja
I'm going to try that you're talking... i'll came back in few minutes

ya, i don't like to feel any heat when I touch my heatsinks, and i don't mind noise, so I keep 2 highrpm fans on it constantly.
i even set vdram on auto. I haven't really tried tweaking its voltage because i assume it just undershoots it and stability's been fine, and whenever i tweak ram timings at all its unstable, so i figure it's ram settings are fragile.

Nope... don't work.. hehehe... i don't know... can my OS broke? Because i have few bluescreen.. :s
By the way i'm using the 1306 bios version...

bluescreens are mostly power problems.
whew man i guess this board is kindof a hassel.
post all BIOS settings? If you've got the XMP option try booting into that. Copy down those ram timings and set those in manual OC option. are you using OCZ ram? i've got a 2x1 1333 CL6 kit that i could toss in and try to get timings for at 1600 cl7 when i get home if you want. I'm off to lunch now, but i'll be back soon.

I did it with this setting
Asus P5Q3 deluxe
- cpu gtl auto
- pll 1,64
- vfsb 1,32
- vdram 1,8
- vnb 1,36
- nb gtl auto
- sb volt auto
- sata pci volt. 1.5
I don-t wnat to believe that my p5q3 dl don-t make 600 fsb :s

change your memory divider
i've had best results with 400mhz strap too.
describe what happens when it fails.
and make sure you have sufficient vnb!

I have change... for everyone i have... but the same..
I'll try to use 400 mhz NB strap
But i don't know..
I'm a litle dessappointed, because i want to see 600 fsb
It start, load the OS.. and when XP is saying Welcame... appear bluescreen.... sametimes talk about memory adrees and other time.. talk about same part of hardware.

you can try with more vcore and pll, but lower vfsb (your is dangerous)
600x7=4200 MHz and 1,3V is a low value, I set 1,39-1,4 for 600x6
