I have ordered a Q6600 processor...(is coming tomorrow i hope)...But my big problem in the bios versions 2205 and 2206 there is no intel speedstep (i can switch it to "enabled" and it's off!!!)and in some way is the onboard soundcard is always "Enabled" ...I have a creative x-fi card(also a thing with "issues" under vista but they have soved many problems and works ok now).....So i don't want the onboard soundcard...What are they doing with this expensive board...I am back to the 2103 (thanks to the good instructions here)bios and hope that my new processor will work(soo far i can see in this forum it will work with 2103)Never had a asus board wit so many bios issues

Does P5W-DH support E6850 cpu? I'm thinking of upgrading to this CPU but dunno whether it will work on this board. If it does support, any special memory requirement like faster DDR2 rams needed etc. I'm currently running on DDR2 5300/667 memory. Advise apprciated.

That CPU is supported since BIOS 2103.

    2206 installed without issues, from 2205 (early P5WDH; Rev 1.02g; 66MOAG)

    PROCEDURE USED:
    - power off harddrives (SATA HD bay system installed)
    - clear BIOS (jumper, 10sec)
    - install 2206 with EZFlash 2 from USB flashdrive
    - clear BIOS again (jumper, 10sec)
    - set BIOS settings and reboot
    - verify proper BIOS settings and power-off system
    - set HD power to "on"
    - power on system and boot to OS

    RESULTS:
    - no new "devices"
    - no problems with onboard sound staying at "disabled"
    - memory speed, temps, OCCT v1.1.1-b4, etc., all nominal
    - did not test "multi" capability
    - did not test Vista Ultimate 64b

Well I recieved mine yesterday via Canada Post..
It is indeed the Q6600 SLACR stepping..
Only took a week to get here from Vancouver..from Ncix
    Total cost $321 including shipping.
This cpu was packaged on July12/07
Since installing today a few hours ago..
I also bought a new case yesterday, Antec Nine Hundred. dropped MB temps down from 48 idle to 34 awsome.
Everest is showing MB temp as 34 idle
CPU is 19-22 degrees idle BIG TYPOON IS AWSOME
I had to flash to a higher bios when I installed cpu on boot I would get this message. " Intel cpu ucode loading error F1 to resume"
It still worked just had to hit F1 each time.
    Thanks Lawrywild.
I will try your bios later today when I arrive home from work.
Will I have any problem going from 2205 to your modded 2004
So far so good, 3dmark06 scores up a few hundred from my e6600 scores.
I would like to hit 10K with this setup, do you think it's possible.?

Still not happy here. So I flashed back to 1707 to support a CPU that of course I don't own, but anyway, that works and my Celeron also still works. So far so good.

However, on the 1707 BIOS I get the problem documented in this thread that I can raise FSB only when I use SPD timings, and that kicks in around 300-330 FSB. That didn't use to be the in the 2004 BIOS. Obviously I can't do this. I have 8 GB RAM to drive and overlock at least 50%, so SPD values aren't gonna cut it.

Of course I can work around this with a variety of methods such as messing with the timings and divider after boot at low speed, this clock up, or by putting in new SPD values into the memory modules. It doesn't help that this BIOS doesn't have enough control over memory anyway.

But unless somebody has easier suggestions I'm afraid I'm through with this board. It sure is shiny and has no real clocking problems, but I really had it now with problems that Asus deliberately caused.

In any case, I greatly appreciate your help in this thread.

What cpu are you using again?

PM me some details like CPUID strings etc and I will modify a 2004 bios to support the cpu for you.

    It's a shame the sub-memory timings can't be tweaked ... or can they !

I still can't get my Corsair XMS2 rev 1.1 DDR2800 to boot at 1:1 with 400FSB and manual timings of 4-4-4-12

    Hmmm, what voltage? Because I'm currently running Crucial Ballistix 1066 400Mhz 3-3-3-8 1:1 w/ 2.25vdimm for 24/7 use.

lol, I have the same problem, except mine is the opposite of your description - same thing with the vcore, sometimes its the value I picked, then on another boot its back at "Auto"! What a board.

As for your problems; create a "overclocking profile" or whatever they're named, and be sure to do all your changes first in the bios, then save to the profile - and everytime you reboot, just load the profile and exit bios...

    I want a good bios...now.

Make sure that both the C1E and Intel SpeedStep options are disabled if you want to set Vcore manually else it will revert back to Auto ie. they are linked options.

I wonder why this is so on this mobo cos they are independent options on my P5B Dlx and Commando boards.

Is it still a beta or does being on the ftp make it official? Or is it an official beta, lol.

By the way. Can anyone point me to a CORRECT picture to the vdroop pencil mod? The picture in the previous page is of a P5B Dlx.

I've googled my ass off but only found results for P5B deluxe's, and when I actually get a P5W page it's just about people saying how effective the mod was for them Or mods involving resistors n stuff

    I should have 1:1, 3:4, 3:5 and 1:2.

When selecting 200 MHz FSB with a 800 MHz FSB CPU:
    - 400 1:1
    - 533 3:4
    - 600 WTH?
    - 667 3:5
    - 800 1:2

When selection 300 MHz FSB with the same CPU I get more memory dividers:
    - 450, yeah, right. Should be 1:1
    - 600
    - 750
    - 800
    - 900
    - 1000
    - 1200

    What gives?
When you select 200 Mhz FSB, the bios, no matters what cpu you have (i.e 800, 1066 or 1333 Cpu), gives you the dividers relative to 533 and 800 strap:
    400, 533, 667 and 800 -> 800 strap
    600 -> 533 strap
Note that, with the 533 strap, you can have also 1000 and 1200 Mhz for the memory with 200 Mhz for the FSB...so you're right, why the hell you have only five dividers? Well, ask Asus...
Edit: Well, thinking about it, maybe when the Ram Multi is above 4X, the northbridge is not able to buffer the data between the Ram and the Cpu, so in this case is not Asus fault, but a limitation of the chipset.
When you select 300 Mhz for the FSB, the available straps are 800 and 1066:
    450, 600, 750, 900 -> 1066 strap
    800, 1000, 1200 -> 800 strap
Here's a table that i made sometimes ago where you can see all the available Ram multi as a function of the strap:

The DDR freq is given by Multi x FSB.
Note that, for the P5W-DH, the last row and the 1333 strap column are not available.

Thanks, I am considering returning this CPU for the GO stepping. Did not realize there was such a significant difference in stepping.

Is the only true way to see what stepping you have is to read the code on the face of the chip?
