I'm keeping FSB term sub 1.35 mate, but some just pump over 1.4 through their quad CPU's... with phase or such you can go far lower with the volts then when on air... Lets hope they put a newer rev NB on you PCB...
My NB never really liked anything over 1.32Nb volts, with the Giga's we are happily pushing 1.4 and beyond there... really strange
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

It is going to be a whole new board, they agreed to cross ship me one. They had replaced the NB once because well, Lightning happened to grace it with it's glory and fried it. I don't think it has been the same since. I talked them in to cross shipping me another one because I helped them resolve that issue awhile back with the Q9450 and alikes, where I had sent them my CPU so they could troubleshoot the issue because they didn't have a Q9450 to use.

As far as the NB voltage goes, yeah I think something is going on there that we are not aware of. Hence the questions about why dude can go soooo far with his P45 chipset and here I am, can't get over 485. I honestly can say for a fact that this thing is holding me back at this point, just don't know why.

he uses chilled water too, with load temps of 20°c, helps fsb big time !!

I noticed you asked him what he was using. I got some new memory on the way and the new motherboard so, I will see what happens when I get everything together and post the results. I ordered some OCZ Blade DDR2 1150 memory.

Leeghoofd, sorry this is offtopic but I heard you mention a custom prime run that you use in your reviews could you tell me a little more about it? Thanks.

I just use Prime95 (32bit or 64bit depending on OS used), custom mode selected with 20K - 20K set... it fails faster than normal small FFT's, plus we compared it with the then actual IBT and temps were within 3-4°C of IBT (current linX is again up to 7-10°C difference on the cores) But my main test is to have constant heatoutput to test my watercooling or other cooling gear... ( With the IBT I stress my own hardware way harder and I'm already over 200 hours primes with the current I7 watercooling blocks roundup )

That seems a lot of volts to get 4GHz David.

I'm running 4GHz with a Q9550 at only 1.256 (actual) and that's not particularly special for an E0 chip. See if you can ease off on the volts (or push the FSB up for 4.2+).

That is probably because you are pushing the FSB to far for this motherboard for one thing and you probably need to tweak the rest of your BIOS settings so you can get that Voltage for the CPU lower. You can post your BIOS settings and some one here will tell you what to tweak that will probably land you less voltage being required for the CPU and then you should be able to get 480FSB stable with the motherboard as well. I am basing this off my own experience so far by the way. I can't get 485 FSB completely, stable on this mother board.

    Question

Also when ever i got above 4.25 it will decress the benchmark only on the graphic test ?? which is quite weird could it be that the board is bottlenecking the gpu as the cpu goes to higher fsb?? i dont know this chip goes way over 4.5 which loads really fast but when i load games it will lose FPSs' ?...

Thats because your not stable. Dude I hope that vcore is without loadline. Thats quite a bit of juice. You shouldn't need that. You might want to try tweeking the other settings in the bios.

Ok update, I have my new one in and it is flakier then the other one I was using and seems to have issues going as high as my other one did. I have been trying 485 again and it just won't stay stable but, Lee you will be interested in this part. I noticed that no matter what settingd I was tweaking exedra nothing would make 485 stable so, I cranked up the, you guessed it NB voltage to1.4V and it made it more stable. Still unstable I cranked it up to 1.5! Still more stable but still not completely stable. I am scared to go higher then that though. I am messing around with 480 for a minute now since know I had that stable before. I should (crossing fingures) get my new memory tomorrow too. That will be the sweetest part to play with.

Yeah, absolutely no doubt about it now. I was having issues with 480... Tried few things nothing would make it more stable. Just cranked up the NB voltage to 1.58v!!! Running stable with Prime95 right now no, ! This is nuts!

I backed my settings down for now to 450 x8.5! just until I get all my drivers installed exedra and then I will keep tweaking away. Interesting how high of voltage this thing likes when getting up their in FSB. I will have to feel this new board out for awhile apparently because it is like night and day compared to my other mother board. I have tried all my old settings and this thing just likes more voltage. I ran prime95 all last night at 450 x 8.5. I set my NB voltage to 1.3 and turned down my cpu voltage to 1.248v and it ran through prime all night just fine. Totaly different beast here now.

I am having issues installing the damn chipset drivers though. Has any one here figured out how to get intel chipset drivers to properly install with these mother boards while running windows 7? I will run the setup and it just says finished, I know damn well nothing installed.. Tried googling can't find anything about it. Normaly I have a driver program that does it for me but I have to have the support team for the program reset my keys for it before I can use it again and I don't want to wait 48hrs for that to happen. I have tried compatability mode for Vista Service pack 1 and run as admin and that isn't working either. I can't be the only person to run in to this issue.

I'm pretty sure I installed using vista compatibility mode when I put the beta on. Maybe the RC already has the correct chipset drivers built in. Pretty much everything else is!

If not, could it be a download that's not got all the file? I'm using IntelP45ICH10R_Chipset_V9001009_XPVista.

I always have this issue for some reason which is why I started using that driver program which is actually good if they had better key management but, always had this issue with Windows 7 for some reason. Windows 7 is using an old~ driver. I want to install the newest ones then install my other drivers but, can't do it until I get this issue resolved first. I just don't get it. I will try safe mode real quick and report back.

Reporting back: Nope safe mode did the same thing. I hate Intel for this one. Any one else? I just don't get it. I am not going to do each one by it self that is for sure. When I use that driver program it kicks in and ask me about every single driver it installs and installs every single one, it kills me I can't figure this one out.

Another Update: First of all, I said hell with the newest drivers for now and installed my GPU drivers. Second, I really can't get past 470FSB with this motherboard I have now. I have been tweking and poking and just can't manage. I can get up to 460FSB just fine. I might try clearing the motherboard for a few hours with the battery out and see if it has some ghost BIOS weird thing going on or something.\

Updates further: I didn't clear it out for two hours like I said in my upset state at th emother board but, I let it sit for awhile and I also unplugged and replugged in all my power supply connections and mother board connections and checked for loose wires every where and I am now on 470FSB stable it looks like. I noticed when I first installed this thing that I got a fatal error message and a cpu has been changed message as well, maybe it was a ghost.

Thumbs down 3D mark 06 score down

Ok this is really annoying now?! i am still getting a low benchmark on 3D mark 06 ? i really dont know why i tried to put it back in stock and i get an amount of gpu and cpu score and the more a push the cpu the better the score on the cpu but the worse on the gpu?? why should it not go both up sinces the cpu is responsable for helping the gpu fps to go higher?? i dont get it, it only happens whenever i go higer that 3.9 ghz?? could it be that am bottlenecking the northbrige?? really dont know?

I don't think your one card would be bottle necking this board now, my two cards on the other hand. Lee swears we are not bottle necking the chip-set so.. I am going to take off my north bridge cooling tonight and put some real retentions clips on it and some real TIM. I think this might be my problem at this point. I am stable at 470 now though so I am getting back up their slowly but, surely.

I forgot to say thank you after noticying that you told me how to do this I went ahead and did it and it worked. Wonder why it does that though? I have given up on my new board though. I ordered a Gigabyte UD3P. I am hoping I get a better overclock like other people that have it with my new Quad and new memory.

I just got this board with a q9550. Is it recommended to reapply thermal paste to the chipset? I read it about another Asus. It will take more time but better to do it now if necessary.

try increasing vtt. I am pretty stable at 480 fsb, 1.32 nb and 1.30 vtt
and stable at 485 fsb ,1.34 nv and 1.32 vtt
But the extra 5 mhz dont worth the fsb increase ,IMHO.
    cheers

Thank you sir, I will give that a go. I get my new memory today, that is gonna be sweet. I am going to try, to get my nb heatsink to sit flatter today. I might be sticking an old crazy cool plate from my gigabyte motherboard on the back of the nb cooler but, I have to figure out how to get it to stay in place without modifying the current chipset cooler incase I kill this thing in the future. That way I can still send it back and get another one if needed.

    Update:

I took the retention springs and made them stronger by putting an extra little spring on each one to make everything a little more tight fitting. I am skipping the crazy cool plate because I don't know if it would help or not and it would be a little bit of work measuring for holes and drilling them and cutting it down to size exe.. My chipset cooler was a bent one like people have reported before, I think this might have been the issue.

    Update again:

I got my memory and it is running at it's rated 1150MHZ (well close enough an way) at 1.8v Woot! Also this motherboard really does like alot of nb voltage. I know this for a fact because I tweaked my chipset heatsink to the max, or to perfection so it's not just overheating. I am now sitting at 475FSB. I managed to tweak my nb gtl to where it likes it which is .635 and I am running 1.46nbv! I slowly worked up to this voltage step by step and watched everything become more and more stable. This is with my whole chipset stock heatsink tweaked and officially 100% flat and with good TIM and stronger springs on it (2 springs on each retention button) and a little nice fan spinning at 2700RPM sitting right on top of it. My CPU Voltage for right now until I know that this thing is 100% stable and I reach 480FSB is 1.35v, I know it will do less because it did less on the Motherboard I sent back to Asus.

Here are all my settings that matter. I am open to suggestions:

    FSB Frequency: 475
    PCIE Frequency: 101
    FSB Strap: 333
    DRAM Frequency: 1141MHZ
    Dram CLK Skew(s): Auto
    Dram Timing Control: Auto
    Dram Static Read Control: Disabled
    Dram Read Training: Disabled
    Mem. OC Charger: Disabled
Ai Clocks Twister (for now): Lighter
    Ai Transaction Booster: Manual
    Common Performace Level: 8
    Pull-In(s): Disabled (for now)

    CPU Voltage: 1.35
Cpu GTL Voltage Reference (0/2): .65
Cpu GTL Voltage Reference (1/3): .67
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.56
    FSB Termination Voltage: 1.32
    Dram Voltage: 1.8
    NB Voltage: 1.46
NB GTL Referance .635 (Most stable for me)
    SB Voltage: 1.2
    PCIE SATA Voltage 1.6
    Load-Line Calibration: Enabled
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    CPU Clock Skew: Auto
    NB Clock Skew: Auto
    CPU Margin Enhancement: Optimized

    CPU Configuration:
    CPU Ratio Setting: 8.5
    CIE Support: Disabled
    Max CPUID Value Limit: Disabled
    Intel Virtualzation Tech: Disabled
    CPU TM Function: Disabled
    Execute Disable Bit: Disabled

I have a thought, has any one measured their actual voltage being put to the NB with a volt meter, Lee?

Update still: NBV: 1.5! (1.5 Locked up on me, backed it down to 1.48 and I am tweaking gtls again at this point), FSB: 480, Ai Clocks Twister: Light

man, your chipset voltage is too high. I would be aware of it.
