I've never opened up mine either, but based on the results I was getting, most people would imagine they'd be d9's. Mine were the 6400's which are allegedly d9gmh. I was able to get 800 3-3-3 @ 2.2v, 1000 4-4-4 @ 2.1v. Hope this helps

Dude $189.99 now. Even if I do a return rebuy and they charge me 15% restocking, i'd save $20 and I ship free. It's a hassle but it's a threat to get $50 back or so, especially since I'm about to order over $1000 today or this weekend again.

C'DaleRider, how did you test for D9? Just curious, did you open them up or test some other way? Thanks.

DDR800 PC6400 = 190$
DDR1000 PC8000 = 280$ (from 200$ in the last few hours)

Wana OC and save some money, go for it, I think that kit will boot easily with 1.8V and even if not you can borrow a value ram to boot with

Kemo, the buffalo firestix pc2-6400 were great when they worked. With a cmos reset, I've tested with ds3 rev1 and rev2. All three boards boot stock at 266fsb with 4:5 for 667ddr2 at 1.8v with spd timings of 5-5-5-15. The 2x1gb d9gmh posts and operates 100% stably at these default settings, so I didn't have to use kvr or something to get it running. That said, the ds3 apparently is notorious for eating ram, as I've found out first hand. The board still works, but it's getting thrown in the corner since I don't want it to take out any more ram.

Yes, 800 3-3-3 @ 2.2v and 1000 4-4-4 @ 2.1v were 24/7 stable. At those two settings, I did 24hrs of memtest before and a few hours of test5 on loop. Some people say that the 1000 4-4-4 @ 2.1v is pretty normal for d9's. However, people have said that I did get real lucky to get 3-3-3 @ 800 with only 2.2v.

Kotoko, good luck with it . I paid a bit more for them since I built my computer right before the peak of ddr2 prices. But still, it's only around a $60 difference, which when you compare to the outrageous prices they charge in retail like best buy or staples or what have you, it's not too bad .

The buffalo was a real soldier when I first used it. Really really impressive stuff. It even posted at 800 at 1.8v, although I never tested stability (just figured it wouldn't be). But I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a new bios while you try. My board came with F7, which ended up being my favorite bios.

In my testing, it seemed that 1:1 was actually way quicker, especially on the latency scene than a 4:5 upscale.

Word of advice on the ds3: Get speedfan and look at vcore2. That's actually vdimm. Out of the two ds3's I've owned, neither had actual vdimm at the set values. One set 0.1v higher, and one 0.1v lower.

And in the odd event that it ends up not working for whatever reason, there's a real good and easy pencil mod to raise baseline vdimm you can do. Towards the end of my buffalo's life, I needed 2v to get it to post, so I shaded until vdimm measured via dmm was 2v. Just a lot less of a hassle, especially since one of the two ds3's I had acted really funny when vdimm was set to +0.5v or higher (+0.5v gave 2.2v actual).

Dude, wait util the DFI 965 board comes out. I have an S3 ( same as DS3) and it is great, but if this board is $140 like people say it'd be a much better purchase than a DS3 for the simple fact that gigabyte has sucked big time on BIOS issues. They affect some and not others so just trying to warn you.

Ah, I didn't know you didn't have the ds3 yet. In that case, definitely do not get it. It was honestly the worst board I've ever owned. I mean, in the one hand, there'd be periods where it'd perform absolutely astonishing, being at 520fsb totally stably. But then the next second, it'd be in the bathroom vomiting in the toilet. I would have waited for the dfi myself, but I needed a new board right now, so I got the p5b vanilla. It's actually a hell of a board, and I feel so much better with it than I ever did with the ds3. It's way more predictable. Also, it looks like they revamped the vanilla p5b's. See http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=134157 . Now it's a real contender.

I didn't care for the DS3 either. My Biostar P965PT works much better. No cold boot problems, no bull with unplugging my system for 20 minutes if I set the fsb or memory settings too high, and it's cheaper too.

This decision vexes me... Anderyang and a corporate email are both saying early March. That means 2 weeks but also could mean April. My understanding is that there are 965p strap improvements, I just don't know what to do in the mobo regard.

I was also curious about the F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ modules. The DDR2 RAM LIST says that these modules are shipping with both D9GKX and D9GCT so please keep us posted on what your modules are! At the moment I'm trying to sell my Ballistix very cheaply so that I can pick up either the kit above or the F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX, not sure which one to go with? Although I'm taking a hit on my kit I'm excited to test and play with a new kit! I'm really trying to get my hands on a GKX kit, hence why I want the F2-8000PHU2-2GBZX!

Sorry for the delay.......life and all.

I opened them up....the heat spreaders were not very firmly attached and came off VERY easily. So was easy to look at the chips on the PCB.....no real effort to get them off at all.

On another subject.....is the DS3 really that bad a board? Sucks because I just ordered a Rev. 3.3 from ClubIT......guess it'll be going back as non-functional....

When you get your board, can you try putting the RAM on your board and see if it boots?

For the DFI it should be around 145-150$ , has to be cheaper that the 975x IMO you have to get your rig started and working and if anything new came just sell your mobo and grab another one

Sorry I forgot to reply you however you got a very nice set of ram usually I do expect such high clocks with low volts from either handpicked GMH or high Bin GKX so you are very lucky to have such kit
