I changed the cooler a long time ago.
Tech report couldn't get their review sample past 3.466 ghz. It's exhibiting the exact same behavior mine is, except mine is better - it will get into Windows NP at 3.733 ghz.

I'm really hoping that some of the experienced XS members pick up the X6800 retail stepping and show us reliably what this chip is capable of. Not to bash the current X6800 owners but I don't know how reliable your OC skills are. Give it some more time and we should see some X6800 under some more single-stage, LN2, and air.
The only reason I could think of about the bad clocks on this cpu is that he isnt just using one thread for a test of stablity.Originally Posted by Dumo

One single pi is not a test for stablity - only two is still![]()

Used to keep my Prescott@ 4.0ghz belov 40C full load...
I had to increase the vcore to 1.48 cause dual priming gave me random reboots... But I haven`t seen prime failed the way it shuold yet...
Right now I `m priming 3.6ghz at 1.38v. Stable for 15 min so far...
Maybe It`s something wrong with mobo (Asus P5W/DH/Deluxe) causing those reboots

I might shell out some dough this weekend to upgrade my water cooling setup (I have an old Koolance that I was using for my K7 box back in the day), and see how the Conroe performs on that. It will at least tide me over until the socket 775 adapter arrives for my prometia mach 2 gt.
Prime shows 300 x 12 as your settings. can you please confirm that multis greater than 11x are enabled for you with the X6800 which i presume is a retail one? ThanksOriginally Posted by Nightprowler_77

Thanks... i'm after confirmation that retail X6800's have upwards of 11x unlocked on the P5W DH before i switch from 6700 to 6800.... if one of the few could confirm pleaseOriginally Posted by Nightprowler_77

I don't have the Asus board, but I do know my retail x6800 has multipliers unlocked above 11 up to 40 (!).
Anand's review has his Core 2 Duo X6800 reaching 4 ghz on air - unfortunately, he is also using the stepping 5 ES, so there's another data point for stepping 5 being pretty good and stepping 6 not so good. Tech-report seems to be stuck, like me, at 3.466 ghz with a voltage increase. Maybe they have a stepping 6 or maybe they have a bad stepping 5 sample, who knows?

Well it's not only the badaxe that has this problem. I don't know about the overclocking yet, but the Asus P5WDH mysteriously doesn't post either and then the pull of the battery etc. brought it back a couple times, but now it won't even post after the battery removal and jumper clear, so I don't know if it's dead or not. Tonight I'll have to put the stupid celeron that I had to use to flash the bios to get the 6800 to work in the first place back in and see if the asus is alive and then re try the 6800, if it is. Something aint quite right here folks.Originally Posted by Gautam

My P5W DH dropped dead in an odd fashion. First, it stopped being able to run CrossFire, then one of the PCI-E slots went kaput entirely, then the other one. Now it seems like it rarely posts (keyboard flash) but never displays video, regardless of CPU...have a Conroe, Presler and Celly. I hope yours doesn't suffer the same fate.
be carefull at 1.6v because 1.65 may have killed mine. It booted to a dos prompt at 1.65 (under water) temps were high 30's in the hardwrae monitor in the bios, but then I shut it down from the dos prompt, went to bed and no boot this morning. I won't know till later, but I suspect the 1.65 may have sent it over the edge even for that short a time. Unless the board is just wacked completely for some other reason.Originally Posted by redpriest

This board has never beeped for me. Then again I've never tried hooking a speaker up to it. The Bad Axe seems to have one onboard.
I wouldn't fret about the 1.65v...that shouldn't hurt it. Besides that its much much harder to kill a CPU than a motherboard.
The MB situation on the core 2 is pathetic.

:-/
I'm willing to grant Asus that I got one of the bad apples. I did push it pretty hard as well. But if more people start cropping up with problems...it could be a big issue to say the least, which would be a shame because it is an excellent board when it functions.
dang redpriest, that sucks. E6600 B1s do 3800-4000+ prime stable easily @ 1.55-1.6

Yeah, I think its ok in that it won't harm them in the slightest. Whether its optimal or not is a different story. I found my best clocks at 1.5875 on a Mach II.
