    Value VX

OK guys I noticed that we were making one of our Value PC-3200 products using the same WB die we use in VX , they are only tested for the value spec , but they are super low cost and still come with the OCZ warranty , so basicaly I asked the PM ( product manager) to make a part number that specificed UTT Winbond that had not been speed binned , I would say that that in most cases these should perfoma as well as VX 3200 ( though I cant be certain as they are untested )

This maybe a nice low cost solution and they do come with that great OCZ warranty . Hope I made some peoples dreams come true

Part Number is OCZ4001024VDC-KW and you can find them here , I am sure other stores will pick them up shortly.

Not true , We just have a lot of these chips and a great deal of them perform well.... , so why not take advantage of it

Selling a product thats only tested for the lower specs ( which can be machine tested ) allows us to be more price competitive anyway , the cost of hand testing (which we feel is better) is pretty prohibitive.

Thanks for the quick response Ryan

Can you tell us if there is a difference in the chips used in "Value VX", 3200 VX, 4000 VX?

    Cheers

These are all the same chips , in fact there is no diference in any of the chips coming out of winbond nowadays that I know of , some are just speed graded better than others.

You should notice this from the same general " behavior " of the IC
    for example;

Scales well with voltage , lowering certain timings does not increase overclock significantly.

Diferent die or process types typicaly have diferent "behaviors" even though some may run much faster than others .

So the rumours about production of Winbond chips based on the BH process are false as far as you know Ryan?

I was under the impresion that winbond only had one process running right now for DDR DRAMS. I can not be certain which process it is.

I do know there are 2 packages available for the die , one that looks like the old BH one and one that does not , that could be a source of some confusion.

I will find out from winbond as soon as I can, just to clarify for everyone.

    Thanks again mate.

From what I've heard, and this is only from rumours and heresay, is that Winbond are making two packages of CH die (130nm) right now AND are bout to start production of the BH process (175nm or 150nm I'm not sure) for TwinMOS and maybe others.

absolutely awesome, costs about the same as the twinmos dual pack at newegg.

just wondering, and maybe you can't disclose this information, but is there a chance that there is failed vx in these dimms? or were these dimms never tested at all 240 2-2-2.

if the answer is they absolutely were never candidates to vx and then failed, then i will definitely buy some. but if theres the chance that there is failed vx, then i wouldn't like to try.

They are not failed VX , but being untested for VX is not a guarantee they will do VX speeds either.

okay, well at least my fate is not sealed beforehand that they won't do vx speeds. its basically the same as gambling with twinmos, except now at least we know 100% sure that these are the winbond Dies. whereas with twinmos a lot of people got upset and didn't get winbond.

    Few more question Ryan...

    1) Is there another value product that we can find the failed VX in?

    2) Will the value VDC-KW line have 256mb sticks in it as well as 512mb, and if so will any international shipping online stores sell them?

Sweet mother of overclocking. I just did the conversion to Canadian dollars from that US store at the top, and I'd say those are VEEEERRRRRYYYY cheap. A gig of good RAM for less than $200 CAD? YES!

ok to answer the question is there another value product using these chips , yes

some of the normal value could have them , however thats where the fails go , many of those fail the low voltage spec for VX 3200 and will still pass the high voltage spec
but I still dont think its a very good deal
