Talking My AMD mentor sent me two X2 4800+, came with CHIPPED corner and survived!

My mentor from AMD sent me 2 X2 4800+. It arrived at work and when i opened it..i was in horror, the two CPU were overlapping each other!

Turned it over and found the edge of the organic base chipped with exposed gold wiring inside, the side pins are bent. I gently bent them back. Installed them in a motherboard and said a short prayer, turned it on and BOOM they still works lol!

Oced the baby to 2.65Ghz on LOW END air! I wonder what speed i will get when my waterkooling kit from germany arrives..

THANK U AMD! THANK U HECTOR RUIZ!

Damn, a free 4800... You lucky SOB. How about some stock benchmarks??? Something to compare to once you get the watercooling.

Wow, I think you were quite lucky, the CPU(s) could have been damaged beyond repair, and AMD RMA would have been such a waste of time

I still like the packaging AMD has for the CPUs that go to review sites, sleek and black
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

i volunteered at for 2 years at AMD's tech Tour and knew the people from there and also interned at AMD's SIngapore Office which is also the asia pacific HQ...My mentor has been at AMD for 20 years too! And its not he'll e-mail and say "HEY I HAVE 2 X2 4800 let me fedex you one!" He usually gives me the leftover samples lol

I've received XP2000, A64 3400, FX 53 from AMD and i donated the system away to spread AMD's betterment to the world!

Who do I need to give sexual favours to in order to get on this particular wagon? We all have out price, mine is just really low...

Seriously, make sure you seal off the damage with something good and insulating before you get those running, would hate to see a puff of smoke followed by the dreaded crater of death in the middle of the chip....

Good luck and keep us posted?

Direct link to AMD? Good. Tell them to fix the cold bug. Chop, chop!

Maybe a three-stage cooler in chalk outline would get the point accross?
