Dothan overclocking thread

My 4th Dothan is really funny. Prime is running all the time while explorer.exe and system services keep crashing

Ik can do 2,8ghz now but at that speed explorer.exe keeps crashing, this is with the 13* multiplier. With the 11* multiplier I have a hard time doing more than 2,65ghz and with the 12* multiplier 2,7ghz is just about stable.

I must say the Dothan is the weirdest cpu i have ever OC'd.

I think prime is the weirdest progam i have ever run . . I don`t like it , i`ve seen machines prime stable for days crashing with almost no load in windows .

I found out something strange.

Disabling PAT gives me much better overclocking results at ALL multipliers below 13*. With PAT disabled I can get to the same speed with the 9*, 10*, 11* and 12* multiplier as I can with the 13*. This is really strange because it affects both the 11* and the 12*. At the 12* multiplier I could get nothing stable above 12*225mhz but now I can. Weird thing is that with PAT enabled it CAN do above 225mhz and goes up to 241mhz stable. It IS a motherboard issue I think because i have this problem with ALL cpu's.

I disable PAT by booting at 201mzh instead of 200mhz which I usually use for better performance. Ik think I'm just going to buy a P4C800-E Deluxe and see if that has the same problem.

For anyone having problem with their Dothans at a P4P800 SE, you should try disabling PAT because this helps at ANY multiplier.

It is a memory/chipset/Bios problem, not CPU ...

Hmmz strange problem, just fixed my vcore. So I put 1.6 on it. Can get
225*12
235*11
235*10
238*9

anyone knows what the hell is going on? ( it's nog my mem, got divider on it ). Or is this just my max? Temps are a bit high so water is going on it tomorrow or tonight, maybe then I will get higher.

I was about to post my problem, which is very similars to yours.

I am running an p4p800se any I seem to be stuckc 215+ FSB. No matter what multiplier I used.

I figure if I can do 215*12, and could easily to 225*11 or 225*9. But I can't.

I've bump up vCore from 1.5 to 1.6, and still nothing.

I can cold boot into windows at 210 day and night. I use clockgen to OC from there.

So does this mean the mobo is having issues? I know RAM is fine.. it is doing 280 right now.

Any insight or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Is the Intel m 730 still the chip of choice right now? I have some nice Geil ram, I am trying to push over 300, but w/ my FSB crapping out at 215.. I can only push these babies to 280'ish.

Im suspecting it's a common problem with them though. I've had two and seen at least five others with the same problem.

That max with 1.6v set. rem that it droops to 1.51v under load too

That was with winXP and no tweaks at all, it even has anti-virus running and Firewall . I have the screen shot of full screen to prove it too !

I think with win2003 and tweaks I could maybe pull a 24sec at 3GHz, but I leave that to the serious benchers

Stock air, Windows XP pro, 1,6v in bios for a little more stability over 1,55v.

PAT: DISABLED, I have to fix this problem first. I'll try some 13* mp 1:1 2-2-2-5 2,9ghz runs today.

i managed to get 25.240 sec at about the same clocks with p4p800dlx..
i got lower number mby because i had 1 gig ram..

How do you turn off pat in bios? I set performace mode on standard but pat is on ...

Boot at 201mhz fsb or higher instead of 200mhz. CPU-Z shows it wrong. You have to take a look at what everest says. Enabling or disabling PAT with 865 tweaker doesn't work.

*This is with the 865PE chipset. I think PAT keeps enabled with the 875 chipset above 200mhz fsb. I don't know how to turn if off really. I think it is best to set it at "standard" and then use everest to read if it's on of off.

This is exactly where I was hitting a wall with PAT enabled.

I would flash a P4P800-SE bios in it if I were you so you are 100% sure that PAT is disabled above 200mhz fsb. You can always flash back if it doesn't work any better.

Hmmz will try that, do I have 2 disable bootblock in order 2 flash?

I don't know, I think you just have to flash all blocks. There is a guy around here who was running with a P4P bios at a P4C motherboard. His board is for sale right know.
