IT DIED! big suprise right? well maes me wonder what the pc industry is up to as far as quality this board is only 10 months old and it actualy BENT (check out the pics) the chips are burnt u can tell if u look close sorry for the bad pics there from my cell phone!

OMG dude, you saying this is just from overclocking?

I knew the P4 power converters could get pretty hot but this is just unbelievable, also the exploded caps look like .

You can RMA this for sure but they'll just claim you smashed it against the wall or something. Wasn't the motherboard attached to your case? That would keep it straight right?

    Looks like user error =\.

You musta did somethin wrong man. Board's only warp slightly cuz of heatsinks.

    That's just...wow

possibly bent from the heat? or the damage is from the bending... i can't tell.

the board was PRISTINE when i installed it and i only overclocked the pressy by 660MHZ i had it running for 10 months the orange color on the ram and the floppy connectors also fadded from the UV lights! it relly just came out of the case like that i swear how do u bend it without breaking it i dont get it? and if it was like that WHY WOULD I INSTALL IT!! i lost the recipt for the board so there giving me grief about an RMA.. i dont know. it was totaly watercooled northbridge and cpu hdd's and video card, it never got relly hot ever ether i just here so much about bad caps so it makes me wonder and .

The Prescott needs alot of current and puts a large stress on the voltage regulators; by replacing the CPU cooler with a waterblock you have taken all the airflow from the mosfets area, wich probably overheated until something cracked. Also brandinb is right, pulling the plug on the PC when you see a damaged component is just common sense.

Looks like the mobo was not securely fastened in the case on the stand offs. If it was, it would not have bent. It apears that the mobo was secured by only a handful of mounts and the weight of the water cooling equipment and twisting pressure from the hoses caused it to bend.

    I've seen this before.

Note: use ALL the appropriate mobo mounts when attaching phase change equipment, water cooling kit, or heavy heat sinks.

Sense smensh, if we were all building long lasting highly durable systems you might have a point. If that's your goal hanging around a place like this must be frustrating.

Seriously ,and teasing aside, it's dead, throw it in the garbage and get another one. Cool the surface better and use all your anchor points. Motherboards are a few cheap components on a PCB, I don't expect too much out of them at the price point they sell for.

brown stuff on the 12v is from the stress on the line. i used ALL the mounts for the board. it warped it actualy streched out. there is no mount within 4 inches ether way of that bend about a 6-8 inch gap where there is no mounts. also i used a koolance case and have 4 case fans ontop of the 2 powersupply fans and 3 fans for the radiator on top of the case, i did a smoke test when it first got setup and it cleared a case ful, of smoke in about 20-30 seconds thers some good airflow, i droped over 5000 on parts for this rig it was all top notch ill trake some pics of the case its TOTALY CUSTOM, down to paint. i tore out all the koolance crap pump and replaced it with a better innovatek pump and res. i had the rig on ALOT though, i blew through atleast 12 new cold cathode tubes and the transformers to them. and had 2 fans burn out, it was worked hard. but i dont understand why it failed so soon, also the rev "B" was a "tweak" to get the board ready for presscott i think it was relly designed for northwood cores they draw way less volts. p.s. 1.75 vcore. and 3.2 volts on the ram with the OCZ ddr boster.

Are you sure the mobo standoffs all have the same lenght?

If I remember correctly, Kunaak had this problem with his Prometeia Mach I Enlight case. He got them replaced before the board was bent though...

Well, good luck RMA'ing it. You don't need a recipt to get warranty. Just send it to the manufacturer (DFI in this case). The manufacturer will only look at the serialnumbers (I assume they are still on the board). The recipt is only usefull for the shop where you bought it from.

some pics of the rest of the case, this thing used to look so tits when it was all together! custom fan grills i replaced the fans all over chrome fans below the grill on the top. custom wire wrapping (neon UV orange) on everything besides the ultra-x, custom paint (chevy orange and ford blue) 40mm ram fan, blue neon grill lights blue led case feet "unreal" thumbscrews GM dexcool orange anti-freez (high endurance coolant) cant see them well but thoes are blue EL wire sata cables! alot fo work done its relly uposetting to have to tear it apart for a damn mobo, took me HOURS to put it together....i also checked the standoffs for thoes mosfits and there is only 2 at the top there WAY to far apartall 3 heatsinks are inbetween the standoffs

I used to get sent boards like that at epox.

The faliure is caused by a mosfet or cap dying. The burning caused by failed cap shorting (pulling loads of amps) or fet doing the same... or you were pulling ALLOT of amps from your CPU... but I doubt it on 12v supply.

As for the bending... like the other guys I would first be thinking that it was mounted wrong...
But it might be that the mosfets got so hot that the board bent... like a bimetal strip as one side was hot and the other cold... eapecially as thats right over the power plane where there are large areas of copper sheet.. not just traces.

I very much doubt that this is caused by heatsink/waterblock weight... or we would see it all the time.

Check all your standoffs to be safe. Dont want to do this again.

As a general tip you shoud only be lightly tightening your motherboard standoffs. They are only to hold the board in... not to hold the world together.

A very light tighten is enough.

Allot of people kill there boards tightening too much and slipping, or snapping them when they have a standoff the wrong length.

If anybody uses an electric screwdrive on a motherboard then they need a PC building lesson!

Did anyone else notice that the bend is perfectly aligned with the heatsink mounting bracket? The bending wasn't caused by heatsink weight, it appears that it was caused by the heatsink mounting pressure, pulling on the bracket (and therefore the PCB) and pressing against the socket. I'm guessing that the overheating of a mosfet or capacitor softened the PCB to allow this to happen.

Edit: or (maybe) no softening took place beforehand, and the electronic failure was a result of the bending.

there standoffs are far away. if the thing did heat-up and the PCD did soften heat usualy expends and if its held to the case then it would warp because it couldnt expand sideways so it had to bow out? the mosfits below thoes big metal heatsinks are brown (too hard to get a good pic of) and u can see where the shiny black of the PCB is actualy flaking off like the pcb got rotted or something. (i examined it last night again closely)
