You get some mighty results with those small compressors I'm guessing they are about 1/4hp or so...

How is the first stage doing? the second stage is easy, the first stage is the real challenge. I have serious problems in my cascades first stage after teh second stage evap has reached -20c... the evap drops to -70 in a minute or so but the HX exit rises to -15c and keeps rising.... when the second stage is at its final temp at around -102 the HX exit is about -40c but it just cant handle the pulldown
    cool cool cool!

at -96.6c it was holding -35c hx out.
frost all the way back to both compressors but no ice on compressors any more.
i havnt been watching hx temps much mainy make sure its flooded and second stage pressure isnt too high.
tunning on the fly here, single set refrigerant gauges.
always keeping high side attach 2nd stage.
ethylene is so much better than co2.
i cant wait to try my 1Hp rotary's

Now when you let temps get to ambient and start the first stage->wait-> start secod stage-> you will see where the challenge lies.
    cool cool cool!

lots of reading and your off to a start.
royal next cascade is going to be 2 1hp rotarys

well i fired it up to night and it hit -100c staight out.
    -45c hx out.
then off to the computer for some benching.
was holding about -86c running pI 1M runs.
no signs of oil clogging, early days yet though.
little low gas second stage 10Hg, first stage was running fine and strong.

Hey berkut you're back! What happened to your "next gen" cascade, that was looking like it beat down all the other cascades ever made.

kayl, what gases are you using? propane/co2 or what?

classic HX, 12foot ¼” inside of ½”, its from my first co2 cascade.
If I put more 1150 second stage though the hx has to work harder and temps not as good, but a bigger compressor first stage could change that later.

1kw is 12cents AUS or about 9.36US cents an hour.
So this thing cost me about $1AUS for 11 hours.

Sounds good berkut, now you need some 1150 though. r23 would be much better than c02 though
