Can I run any AGP on an nForce4 with this?

Hey guys, does anyone have any information on this "ATOP" adapter from Albatron?

It appears to allow the use of an AGP card in a PCIe slot, extending the life of AGP cards a little bit.

My main question is will it work only with Albatron cards, or others as well. Does anyone know or have an educated opinion?

Seems like it should work with any AGP card...

Heck, that link is about 5 minutes old, so no, I haven't seen it yet.

I ask because while I would like to get a new DFI mobo, I've got quite a few pennies invested in AGP cards and I don't care to have to go buy a new card, along with a mobo. This would allow me to phase my move over to nForce4, if it would work with any card. Looks like a good idea, provided performance isn't impacted too much, if any.

Well it looks like the ribbon cable is only for cards with small PCB's that have an external analog connector so i'm guessing as long as you don't mind fabbing up some kinda mounting bracket it should work with any AGP card provided the drivers aren't too buggy.

where was this a month ago when i was looking for one? :P

Its definetly cool but it seems to only support a very limited selection of cards.

The reasoning behind that is that a)they want you to use it with their cards and b) it's fat so you need to use a thin card for it to fit properly without jury rigging a mounting system.

actually i belive you unscrew the mount on your card and attach your card to it so any card will fit in it as long as your case isnt too narrow i think

I dout there will be any need for drivers as you dont need any special drivers to run a 6600GT AGP. This uses the same bridge chip, they just moved it to a seprate PCB.

Yes, that's what you do. The problem is only thin cards will fit when you attach it using that bracket that they provide. So, if you plan to use it with a card that isn't on their "supported" list then you'll have to jury rig it somehow.

damn, i only wish they would make agp adaptors for PCIe 7800gtx , so i can buy one of those puppies and pop it into my system. since nvidia still uses bridge, and not real PCIe interface.

Thanks for all the comments. I will be keeping an eye out for this product. I am also going to send their tech support an email asking for more info.

I'll post their response if it turns out to be meaningful...of course, sometimes that's a big "if".
