yeah, I've tried "up to" 5/8 with DI and LN2, even 5/8" is a bit too thick, meaning the cpu puts heat more easily into the copper than the ln2 5/8" away from the IHS can rapidly remove.....
SOOO....
It takes forever for the base to cool AND when it does cool, a slight load will make it jump around...
With a 1/2" base, it's kinda a balance, as the cool sinks down, the heat is pulled up and it just kind of "chills".... Now, 1/4 is way too thin, you get MAD fluctuations in temp... 3/8 is better, but I think 7/16-1/2" is BEST
