    Hiyas,
Long time reader, first time poster

Well, its 9:00am and I have an exam that I am completely not ready for (because I've been building computers all week) at 1:00pm, so I'll make this quick.

First, hasn't anyone noticed how all the CBBLE stepping chips have completely pwned in regards to OC'ing and those that aren't CBBLE all have **A* stepping? I'm having a really hard time trying to work out what the key factor is in regards to how high a CPU will clock. I have the opportunity to buy any one of the following stepping:

    (unfortunately(?) all are LBBLE chips)

    0518CPEW
    0518CPAW
    0518EPCW
    0519BPCW

Now you can see why I'm trying real hard to narrow down what the key factor is in regards to OC'ing. There's only 1 of those CPAW cpu's left. Because it's a **A* cpu, does that mean it will clock higher? Or does it all come down to the week it was made? (coincidentally, all 3000+ week 17, 12, and 4 cpu's are **A*). So which one is it? Should I buy that CPAW? I really need at least 2.85ghz from my cpu (when I decide on one) so I can max out my ram and have it running 1:1 at ~318HTT.

On another observation, it seems Australia (where I live) is getting their CPU's from the German Fab. plant. Whenever I google these stepping codes all I get is a slew of german forums with, what seems to be, pretty poor OC'ing results. You can imagine how much fun it is wading through all the "hoger klokken's" and "spreken net's" all the while desperately trying to find some OC'ing figures.

So anyways, in closing, whats the deal?

Tough to say...there are so many 0517's turning out to be really nice...but if you're choosing between those 4 0518's then I'd say to try out the xxAx.

renzokuken, So when I did those stats earlier, that was pretty early in the game... now I get almost the same result with LBBLEs clocking slightly lower, statistically. BUT I only have 12 cbble samples, which isn't really a fair comparison. I have both a 3800 (CBBLE) and 3500 (LBBLE) and they oc the same, big difference I notice is that the 3800 runs slihgtly cooler, like 3C. So I think the LBBLE vs CBBLE doesn't matter as much as the next stepping code... and it seems the "XPAW"s are good clockers, so I would go with that CPAW, but also see if you can get the batch code, also seems to be a good indicator of silicon quality. Don't be surprised if you go through a few cpus thou

Well i'm going to my local computer store (local as in the the Fry's in San Jose) to pick out some CPUs tomorrow, hopefully they'll have some 17s and not just 19 and 20 crap. Looking for 0512DPBW, 0517APJW, 0517EPAW, 0517DPMW.

    EDIT
Well it's a good thing i called them today....
they have 2 3000+s and they're week 20s. WTF, they are nearly out of stock.

So you got the DFI NF3 Ultra! How is it? Does it clock better than your previous board?

Oh i forgot to mention, my batch #s are high, 5xx and 11xx, Cornelius what is your batch #? Hope it won't affect me too much...

Well I still need to buy a CPU and some Memory, Why did I buy the board? I've been waiting too long to build a new rig, and I've been looking for a board that didn't have all those problems other nF3 939 AGP boards have/had...well this board also has problems (I didn't expect it to be perfect), but now I'm sure I'll spend every dime to finish my rig ASAP, otherwise it might have taken me another year.
I wanted to build a P4 rig last year using the DFI 875-T board (I'm an Intel guy) but I said %$#@ it, lets give AMD another try (My last try was a horror story..no I don't want to talk about it) so I started looking, and looking, and looking...and...now there's no way back

    Week 20 Amd64 3000 Venice

Well, in my excitement to get my Venice core plugged in and running I forgot to record the entire stepping code. But I do know that it was a week 20. Over the course of the last three days i've been able to hit 2.550 mhz at 1.42v. Everything is Prime95, SuperPI and hardcore gaming stable.

Sorry I was lame and forgot to record the entire stepping. Next time I pull of my heatsink i'll write it down

    Here is my
    LBBLE 0517 APJW, batch #1127
Not quite as good at Cornelious's! I need way more Vcore. It seems very SP stable but as soon as i raise HTT a little i get a BSOD, and then with a tad more Vcore it is stable again. Maybe it's a RAM thing.

Before you tell me how bad teh score is, I KNOW. I'm running ram with a huge divider, 2T, and terrible timings... just wanted to make sure ram wasn't a limiting factor

I can run Prime95 for a half an hour at 2.89 Ghz but 2.9 is barely stable, and 2.92 gave me an immediate blue screeen
It seems that i'm getting a lot of blue screens instead of seeing instability.
Example: I ran SP32M at 2.85 and it seemed really stable, moved up to 2.88 Ghz and boom BSOD instantly. Raised voltage up a tad and no more BSOD. My other venice wasn't like this; is it normal?
