thats 4 sticks though, 4 sticks would be much hotter, plus that takes alot of volts. all you need to do with that is find 4 good 512mb sticks. not hard to do. however finding good 1024mb sticks is much harder.

This guy is a dumbass - who agrees with me?

    1) All VX requires lots of volts, all high performance ram requires at least an 80mm fan over them.

    2) You just said that finding 4 sticks of 'good' 512mb is easier than finding TWO sticks of 'good' 1GB. WTF are you talking about. Anyone can go and buy 1GB ballistix and anyone can go and buy 512MB PC4000VX.

what I think he means is, finding 1GB sticks that do really well are hard to find. Easier to find 512MB sticks that do real well.

12k just wants to have a WR, thats it
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

Yes, as 256mb modules were generally better than 512mb, 512 are better than 1024mb modules, then, it's harder to find 1024mb modules capables of the same as a 512mb module...

But it's not 'hard' to find anymore. It's safe to say that most 1GB ballistix sticks will do 250 at least since Micron's quality control is top notch. Results are out, anyone can buy them and it's not like they're in short supply. With PC4000VX, all you need to do is turn up the voltage and tweak the settings a little, 260Mhz+ is guarenteed.

As for the temperature issue - I know from experience that TCCD and Micron chips get WAY hotter than UTT and BH5. I tried running Micron @ 3.2v before and the sticks got HOT even with an 80mm fan over them, whereas the same system with 3.6v and BH5 was barely warm. Same with TCCD.

but the sticks arent all side by side as would be needed with 4x512mb. look at 2 ram sticks in 4 slots, now look at 4 sticks in 4 slots, BIG difference in spacing.

I've been running 4x512MB of VX @ 3.6v 265Mhz for the last 3 days and I haven't had a single crash. Before I first booted into windows, I did over 20 loops of memtest to ensure stability. This is with an panaflo 80mm fan over the dimms, 3.3v rail = vdimm mod and nothing more.

Heat is NOT an issue with 4 sticks of VX.

hmm, its 250 mhz T2 thats garuanteed, lots of difference when it comes to T1 vs. T2... I cant run error free at 2,8v 2,5-4-4-7 T1 250mhz... But T2, no problem, not even at 2,6v..

    my old ballistix pc3200 would do 250mhz 2.5-2-2-5 T1 @ 2.8v.

it wouldnt do to much more than 255mhz T1 though.

personally i think the micro chips are great, work well at low voltage, but you get benifits if u do have votlage.

tracer and ballistix is the same..just added lights on tracer.. and 1024 is harder to find. theres only 1 company that ive seen that can push out those numbers, and thats the crucial ballistix. the redline is lookin good dont get me wrong, but theres been alot of issues with the high voltage memory like redline and ocz vx, especially if u r using a dfi mainboard. I know b/c i have some vx on rma. i have 2x1gb of the ballistix tracer on the way from new egg, $366 will be here tuesday along with my 7800gtx. will give u numbers then.

I did RMA cause my kit wasn't able to do even 235 MHz without bunch of errors in memtest - no matter what I did.
    But separately sticks were able to pass 1 test #5 (I didn't try more) @ 250 3-4-4-8

So now I'm jumping into 4x512 redline 2T

EDIT: mine was regular ballistix (yellow) - not a tracer one.

yes but the difference between 1T and 2T is less when the 2T sticks are 1.5-2-2 @ 260MHz. I ran 4x512mb vx 2T and could get higher bandwidth than with those Ballistix 2x1gb 1T.

My Ballistix aren't terribly great but I'm sure I have a lot of tweaking to go as I can't get Trcd or Trp to be 2 clocks at any voltage or MHz. There definitely is a sweet spot of 2.7-2.8V though. Anyway, 260 3-3-3-8 is my best right now...there will be more though.

Did you need to burn the balistix in at all, or did they run 260 right out the box ?
