    TT Big Typhoon Rocks.

    Hey guys.

As many of you know I was one of the "cursed", it took 9 Winnies to get a few good overclockers and had to buy these from 'lucky' previous owners. Anyways, just got a TT Big Typhoon in and at first glance thought, no way this thing will work... it's too big, too heavy and well...just..damn. I was using the XP90 with Silent Cat 9 (have tried other fans) and this CPU I have was used on water at 2.8 Ghz @ 1.6v. I had no luck breaking 300 x 9 and to prime I needed 1.58v, even though gaming and everything else was stable at 1.53v.

So I get this huge thing installed on the DFI Ultra-D. Which by the way I had to replace the back plate with another one I had since the stock DFI one is too short (the posts). Damn DFI. Anyways, applied AS5 installed the new cooler and hit the power. I'm still playing but I've never been able to Super PI 32M above 300 HT and certainly never above 300 @ 1.53....

Like I said I'm not done with this chip seems there was more than the XP-90 could give me...and it's dead silent!

I think that's the biggest cooler I've ever seen!! It makes your board look like its a mini-itx board!! I'd be wary with that in my pc if its in a case so its on its side, I'd be worried it'd snap my board in two!!

    Woah!!

Nice clocks though, what are ambient temps like?

I think HUGE pretty much says it, for your results. I went through one Winchester, it does 2610 all day long at 1,6 which is fine. I'm sandra stabile at 1,7 and 3dMark stabile at 1,8
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

I was weary of the size and weight too. 800 KG but it's not really that heavy on top, plus it screws to the backplaste. As for setting the case up, it's already running that way and my mobo is still in 1 piece lol!

I was a bit skeptical about it being TT and all but it's really an awesome cooler. I Super PI'd 32M twice through now and am priming, so far about an hour. Keep in mind over 300 I was never able to super pi or prime and I'm at 1.53v to do it...very happy so far, gonne move up slowly will report progress, might get 2.8GHZ stable with this cooler. Ambient temps show 28 deg c on the case sensor- so it's not like it's real cold here.

Yeah D, I got the same heatsink, I concur with you it is awesome and performs equally if not better than the xp120 which I also tried but had a hard time fitting into my k8n neo2 mobo. The typhoon fit in without bending anything and the installation was pretty easy, just screwing it into the default retention bracket. It's a good alternative.

here's mine. my cable management was a little crappy at the time i took the shots.

The temps are great and I cannot believe I'm finally breaking that 300HT barrier. Stupied XP90 - hehe. Left it priming 306 @ 1.53v when I left for work today.

I think it would be better if u turned it the other way around, that way u can install a video card in the first x16 slot and the fan will blow over the ram modules.

Wow. That thing is huge and it's kinda surprising the results you got with that seeing as its a TT product. *Thinks about TT's reputation and shudders* Anyways, congratulations on your OC!

Video card is installed in first slot, no problem there. The cooler is the same on either side so there is airflow to the ram no matter which way it's installed.

Yea that HSF is pretty slick, and with it being as big as it is even TT couldn't screw it up.

They've got an even more humungous one, I think its as big as you can get with air cooling and keeping the HSF inside the case:

    http://www.frozencpu.com/cpu-tta-25.html

Its meant for passive cooling but slap a 120mm fan on that mofo and you've got yourself one hell of a air cooling HSF.

Unfortunately 8 hours of work keep me from playing - it's priming now lol

I want to push to 312 (2.808) and see if I can do it. The chip did it on water for someone else at 1.6v, so I'll let ya know if I can do it stable or not.

By the looks of it, this Big Typhoon is the second or third best performing heatsink in the roundup and much quieter than anything in it's performance vacinity. I'd like to try the Sonic Tower with two 120mm fans rather than the one and see how it does.
    Formerly XIP, now just P.
