    News: Creative X-Fi Technology

After the release of the Audigy 2 ZS, most people thought it was just a little improvement from the original SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit. You will think differ, once you get a hold on this latest monster technology.

4 days left until the release of the new Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi's information.

Imagine having the power of a second 3.4GHz processor (more than 10,000MIPS) built into your PC that was dedicated just to audio! That's enough additional power to process more than 10 Billion instructions per second! With X-Fi that's exactly what you get!

Unlike any previous audio processor X-Fi uses a "Mode" architecture to harness and focus all that incredible power in the three key audio uses (Gaming, Entertainment, Audio Creation). This guarantees that you enjoy an audio experience that transcends the compromised sound quality of MP3 and other low-quality audio, while unlocking features that gamers, music lovers and entertainment enthusiasts have desired for many years!

X-Fi will change the way people experience, use and interact with their audio across every imaginable application. This is achieved by overcoming some issues that have been inherent to audio delivery and by providing new and amazing features never before seen in the world of everyday audio! Click on one of the links below to find out more:

    Xtreme Performance
X-Fi Technology is the first true audio accelerator. In the past you had to make a choice between best performance and best quality/highest realism audio (like you have to do today with graphics in games). X-Fi solves this problem! With X-Fi your games and other applications will run faster and smoother than ever before AND you can enjoy the best audio ever delivered for gaming. You will have the edge over your opponents, your games will never have sounded so good and your PC will never have run faster!

Does anyone know when it will actually be as available as an Audigy 4 is now?

    Thanks,

why did they release the audigy 4 just shortly before they release the xifi?
to me this looks like the new chip is still far from release or it will cost a LOT...

This would probably be my next sound card.

I wonder if there's any application that could actually utilize it though.

Imagine having to cool a second 3.4GHz processor... If this thing has active cooling, it'll be a "sound card" indeed.

Lol, what software is going to use 3.4GHz for sound? Anyways, I hope it'll be out in time for my build.

yeah, no joke, this could indeed be a problem considering the only other actual sound processor there is was the soundstorm built into the nforce 2 southbrigde, and when things got hot down there the sound sucked/stopped working, in other words it did need to be cooled and it was built on technology from the nforce 1!!! so i imagine this sucker may actually need active cooling, and this makes me think it may need a decent amount of power, well compared to previouse sound cards anyway, my 480watts of antec power is starting to look really shabby

    holy crap clayton nice rig!!!!

"You will have the edge over your opponents, your games will never have sounded so good and your PC will never have run faster! "

I might be wrong here but it sounds like it might give us a few more FPS (i guess a minute level). Is this through less processing of sound done by the cpu?

Too much bragging on their part, I am becoming less optimistic about all the stuff they say it can do, and yeah, cooling that thing would be a pain.

i like the new eax they will be bringing out, where for online games if you use a mic your voice will sound like its in the environment, that would definately rock in cs:s

no, a soundcard DOES increase your fps as it takes away load from the cpu and chipset

can be up to a 10% boost in fps iirc

Ther are too many things already needing cooling. CPU/GPU/PPU/PSU/NB/Mosfets. Now a sound card that probably needs active cooling? Its a real pain keeping these things quiet these days.

Has anyone tried just insulating the whole MB and dropping the whole thing below 0C? Phase change directly to the CPU, the rest gets it indirectly

^yes, this is a very inexpensive thing to do, and i dont think many are interested because they would like to spend more money on cooling.

ive seen a guy who added waterblocks to his videocard and cpu and then insulated the entire case and pumped chilled water through the loop, since there was no humidity in the system (he added silicia salt packs to absorb the air humidity) there was no condensantion despite the lack of insulation and the entire board and all parts stayed at low temps since the air inside the case was cooled by the blocks and barbs.

its a pita if you change hardware though

i dunno though, somehow i highly doubt that it will run so hot that it needs active cooling. just because it runs at 3.4 ghz doesnt mean itll be that hot, not like it has 2mb of on die cache or anything.

OCing a soundcard. The day has come!!!

I can imagine overclocked sound... lol

Any ideas on the ETA of this card? It'd be nice if it came out in summer.

The hardware is all well & good, but are creative going to put their Drivers/Software on a Diet? If not, I'll stick to M-Audio... Probably Cheapeer as well (Not something I thought I'd say about M-Audio!)
