    I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this;

I couldn't figure out why it won't boot the first attempt, just a loop of long beeps. That is, until I took out one of the two 512MB memory sticks. Now it's going.

So the question is, because the BIOS defaults to 0.9v with this CPU, is 2X512MB RAM too much for the mem controller to handle in the first POST attempt?

Sorry if this has been covered, just thought I'd pass this along so no one else wastes an hour or two...

Try putting both memory modules in the two slots closest to the CPU socket.

200x4 too. it wasn't a problem for me. you just have to make sure you have your async latency exactly right. too high or too low = no windows for me.

also, i have to load up the dimm slots consecutively. no 1+3 or 2+3.. only 1, 1+2 and 1+2+3

It should. For whatever reason, revision E doesn't seem to like anything in slot 3. Winchester didn't like memory in slot 1 (would result in no boot). And my desktop Newcastle refused to work with memory in slots 2 & 3.

Seems like each memory controller has it's own little quirks.

EDIT: ozzi, you can get three sticks working w/Newark?

Memslots 1+3, that's what I had, because thats what worked best with my Newcastle. Just tried it again with slots 1+3, no POST. Swapped them into Slots 1+2 and it fired right up.

Interesting. So it looks like the CPU's memory controller determines what slots work best. I always was under the impression that the mobo/BIOS played more into that...

the new bios fixes that issue, i just tested it

and yes, i need to run at 2T though.. that was on the k8n neo however.. haven't messed around with it much on the dfi, also, i have two double sided sticks and three single

edit, so it's two double and one single that i got working

    hej,

    @ozzimark:
Since you have your DFI can you run 1T timings much higher than your MSI k8n neo plat...

If I go higher than 420mhz on 1T timings It's rock stable and I can run 32M test and game as long as I want but when I start doing regular pc stuff (msn, internet, music) it just's reboots...

but better than 35s on this cpu won't be possible, another reason to upgrade

well actually... with the clawhammer, i couldn't run over ~235mhz, no matter what. even with 2T. memtest would just randomly lock up. i could get into windows, but it'll randomly reboot at times, never could figure out why.

and the dfi and msi both had the same limit with two sticks in.

now it doesn't do that anymore.

    maybe

It depends on your Ram, cpu, rev, bios version...

Are you able to run @ high memory speeds with 1gb (512mb x 2) of double sided memory such as 250mhz 1/1 2-2-2 1T? I can't with my setup and I believe it is because my 3000+'s memory controller is terrible. I can run 250mhz 1/1 1T 2-2-2 with a single 512mb BH-5 stick but with 512mb x 2 memtest gives me errors at any speed/timings no matter the slot configuration. I might buy one of these if I can run 1gb (512mb x 2) double sided @ 250mhz 2-2-2 1T 1/1 no problem in my DFI Lanparty Nf3 250gb.

i don't have two doible sided sticks of bh-5, but my 512mb sticks of ballistix can make it to 260mhz with a bit of tweaking. i'm fairly certain that this is the limit of the ram, and not the memory controller.
before i could only do ~235mhz with both sticks in

So has everyone here who has one gotten it from Vandi? I PMd him asking about the details, but can the Newarks/Lanchasters be found anywhere yet? I was thinking of dumping my 3400 CG clawhammer for a 939 setup, but if Newarks and Lanchasters are really around the corner, I might just wait. Anyone order one from the link posted before (forget the store's name)? Or does everyone just get it from Vandi.

Great results though, I'm relly looking forward to these chips going mainstream!

Just a very quick test on a blisteringly-hot day...

    2940.08MHz - CPU-Z Verified

I did this several hours ago. It's a terribly hot day in Southern California and my air-conditioning unit has been dead for the last two weeks. 2940.08MHz on hot air with BIOS CPU Voltage set to 1.550V + 4% isn't too shabby. I passed SuperPI 1M at this speed.

The BIOS my board shipped with was a no go. I had to flash over to 5/4 Official to get passed the initial boot screen. I'll be seriously testing this thing starting on Monday. I think this thing has potential if it can reach just 60MHz shy of the 3G mark on a hot 85F day.

Stay tuned for my thread next week, folks.

Wow maybe 3GHz is possible with some water. It's been 100F+ where I live and it sucks! I can't even turn on my Opterons because my room gets too damn HOT.

That is really good news especially considering that you were on air that wasn't 10C. LOL I'll take 85F over 100F+ any day!

Saaya will be getting a slightly different Newark. I hope his does better. The core looked a little different then the rest that I've seen.

Can't wait for your thread Conrad!

It'll definitely be an adventure for me considering I've been out of the game for a few months. On top of that, this will be my first time to bench with sub-zero cooling. When I met up with chilly1 this morning, I tried to get as much info as I could on liquid nitrogen cooling. I'll be torturing my 3700+ and X850 XTPE with some LN2 soon - hopefully by next month.

Oh man those are amazing numbers for the temperature Conrad... sheeeet those are just amazing numbers for ANY air cooling!

From your quick tests, how does the VX like the new memory controller?

I haven't really played with it yet - I only had about an one hour to really test today. I just have one 512MB of VX in place since you can't fit two with the DDR Booster. If I have some time tomorrow, I'll insert both modules and just tweak up the rail voltage.

I'm thinking about one of these for my MSI K8N Neo Platinum....do you think this would be a good idea? I know ozzi had issues with the voltage, but at least it booted and ran fine at stock...

I just want some more headroom on my CPU as my current Claw is a little lack luster, and also my memory wants to spready it's wings and fly. Damn claw's and their restrictive memory controllers...

nice conrad. it appears that we have very similar chips
(except you're using a bit less voltage on a hotter day with a better heatsink. it's hard to tell who wins there)

i'm definitly anticipating your results with phase.

tsue, the step up from a 2.35ghz clawhammer to a 2.8ghz newark is a big one, however... i'm not sure if it's really worth the money

2.6GHz with default vcore. Check out the temp. My 3400+ Newcastle could only do this with 1.6v.

EDIT: The only thing that I can't figure out is why I lost a little b/w. In memtest I went from 1953 mb/s to 1814 mb/s with everything staying the same except the CPU. I also lost a couple seconds in 2MB Super PI.

    I'll be back...
