Anyone else think ABit is getting cheap with regards to their caps? I know they are still Rubycon, but they look damn small compared to the ones on the IC7. I used one on my friend's computer and I was shocked to see how small the components are. 110 plus vat, how much is that in US dollars? No need for SLI, I'm an ATI guy. ANyone know when the Ultra is coming out?? Does this mean the regular AN8 and AN8 Fatality nonSLI will get discontinued?

the only difference i can tell is that it uses quiet otes technology. hopefully the bios will be the same as the SLI

Maybe it will be like with NF7-S - the first versions pretty much sucked while the v2.0 was the best nForce2 o/cer until DFI stepped in

my only gripe of Abit boards, is it's been a hell of a long time since I seen one that reported sub zero temps

other then that, any competition is good to the market.

god I hate trying to figure out what SLI board does what, when theres 3 different versions of the same board... one has SLI, one Doesn't, another one looks like it supports SLI, but can only support 2 videocards... another has a built in microwave, another one does your lawn when you turn it off, the other one comes in a glow in the dark color...

So far on paper it looks like a decent board. If it oc's well then it could be a winner, since abit boards are generally more stable than DFI.

Hey Kunnak, if they made just one, a few of us may not be able to afford a full blown board. Do you think it is right tht through the preduction of just one board tht some peeps like myself would be outpriced, making the board an exclusive accessory?

I would still stick with an Ultra-D. In order to get that vdimm you will need to dish out the cash for that board, which is a Fatal1ty first of all ($$$), and also, its an SLI board which means you can't get a simple Ultra board to overclock and have a good time on, you need to get the SLI. What abou people who don't want SLI? I guess if it is affordable then sure, but I would stick with the DFI. Will be nice to see Abit do something nice, like the NF7 for the axp. Looking forward to performance and comparisons.

Whoa i just saw the uguru panel on the inq article. Holy guacamole that thing looks sweet, but still I think its making overclocking more mainstream for noobs. That might be on some alienwares in the future

I don't understand what VAT is I assume it may be tax. But converting the currency 110 comes out to $201.50 US and converting 129.25 comes out to $236.80. So I would assume given the price of the current Fatality of around $200 I would say the price will probably be closer to the $230 mark. It won't be cheap thats for sure.

The only reason for DFI making the 3.3/5V switch is because the nF4 series uses a linear VRM for Vddr. That means that a lot of heat is being dissipated on the MOSFETs in order to lower the voltage from 3.3V/5V rail to whatever voltage is the RAM working at.

Abit's Vddr uses a switching (PWM) VRM... like the one used for Vcore. It's quite efficent, and DOES NOT dissipate a lot of heat... nowhere near of what DFI's VRM is dissipating. The only downside is that the voltage is not as "clean" as that of the DFI (switching VRMs need a lot of caps to provide non oscilating voltage). But I'm sure there won't be such problems with the AN8 Fatal1ty SLi board... you can see a lot of caps near the Vddr VRM.

But I doubt it can be a serious contestant... the main problem is the BIOS. It lacks a lot of tweaking options for DRAM.

A simple monetary conversion is not enough because PC parts are more expensive in some parts of the world. What you can do is compare to other similiar (preferably by the same brand) boards in that same store, and then check the prices for the boards you used for comparison in your local store.

For example AN8 SLI is 10% more than the AN8 (both Fatal1ty), so it would cost around $185 + $18.5 ~ $200 at newegg.

Another thing is that the price is not final yet, it should take a few days/weeks for the stock and price to normalize.

I actually like this board. Lets hope it will perform well. The problems with cold boots on the DFI are terribly increasing lately which keeps me away from DFI for now.
