Question A7N8X Deluxe capacitors - Rubycon or Nichicon?

I set up 3 A7N8X Deluxe boards and one of them has Nichicon caps. The board with the Nichicon caps runs smoother (stability, no graphics artifacts/tearing) at 207 FSB than the ones with Rubycon caps. Same components, settings, cooling tried on all three boards; no mods.

A7N8X Deluxe 1.04 with Nichicon caps

A7N8X Deluxe 1.04 with Rubycon caps

Just wondering if the different brand caps are making a difference, and if anyone else had opportunity to compare what are your observations.

    tia,
    Scott

The Nichicon caps...tho the same rating as the Rubycon's, have always set themselves apart on ABIT boards I've owned in that the voltages were better, more stable and as you demonstrated, overly smooth especially when overclocking. They are just a higher quality item IMHO.

    hi scott,
which one is newer? did you notice any difference of the coil placement near the fan header?

    beatnic,

Here are receipt dates, all boards from NewEgg

    Board 1 received 11/21/02, serial # 2BZG0F0xxx, Rubycon caps. Low achiever - can't break 190.

Board 2 received 12/18/02, serial # 2CZG0F0xxx, Rubycon caps. Coil by power fan header was installed out-of-spec. Coil nearly touching/shorting onto the outermost pin of the power fan header. Power fan header unusable.

Board 3 received 12/21/02 (Saturday delivery), serial # 2CZG0B8xxx, Nichicon caps.

Appears board #2 has higher serial number than board #3. I'm assuming it came from the same NewEgg shipment as board #3. Mixed bag w/respect to cap-brand I guess.

I've got to RMA mine to Komplett.se, so I'll get another one from there too I guess. :-)

I just hit 18,150 in 3dMark2001 by cranking my Radeon up to 403/353 and BIOS 1002 at 197x11.5 1.85v Timings of 5-2-3-2, and I have the Rube Goldberg's also.

I might be able to go higher, but without a volt mod, I'm really happy with this...rubycons or nichicons. I can't even pronounce those, let alone understand their nuances.

Well, that blows that theory out of the water. Congrats on the score.

Got the Rubycons, and board runs fine at 200fsb. Does exhibit some tearing in 3D at times, but then I haven't put AS3 on my NB yet. Adding a small fan will probably help too. But windows is fine.

I've got the Nichicon caps on mine! I bought mine the day it was released on Newegg--whenever that was.

Btw when I looked @ my mobo, I realized that I have freakin dust all over my computer!!!!!! This is unacceptable I tell you! It's been running open-desk since I got it. I can't believe this! RARR! I need a freakin clean room!

I'm thinking that's a typo, or I'm thinking you have an 8RDA+ and you didn't realize he was asking about the A7N8X... but I'm HOPING that A: You have some kinda BIOS that let's you go to 220mhz fsb, or B: you have a software program for higher FSB.

But I have a feeling you just typo'ed.

Btw, speaking of software fsb programs, I talked w/ the guy who makes setFSB and he said he's working on an nforce2 version *weeee*
