DFI NF4 mod to SLI.. Guide and Info.. !!

    Hey all..

A buddy of mine wrote up a nice guide on how to mod a DFI NF4 mobo to SLI.. so I figured I would pass it on along with some other info ..

Link to ExRoadie's guide for the SLI mod..

Notice that he mentions ALL DFI NF4 mobo's are capable of being modded to SLI.. Ive also heard from the same sources that what he says is true.. So if your worried about getting one that cant be modded.. Worry no more because all DFI NF4 mobo's are moddable and will be like that for quite some time..

Some other interesting info is that Leadtek is making SLI kits with two cards that include a bridge.. They are also selling SLI bridges by themselves which is good for those that did the SLI mod and have been searching all over for a bridge..

Here is a linky for the 6800gt SLI package with the bridge..

Here is a linky for the SLI bridge ..

I heard that they will becoming available at newegg and more popular places soon.. There will be a 6600gt card package available soon with the bridge included as well ...

Hope this helps some people out ..

Thats not true.. it was pretty much just rumored about that a while ago ..

The mod is a hardware mod that makes the board a SLI.. There is no way for drivers to tell between a modded NF4 board and a regular SLI mobo..

That might be true.. BUT if you read my link you will see me and ExRoadie have heard from a VERY reliable inside source that DFI has thousands of chips that were purchased way before anyone even knew they were moddable..So this means that they have plently of chips for quite some time that will still be able to mod..

Nvidia said they were going to as soon as the mod was discovered. And honestly, why would they not say it? It simply serves as a deterrant for some people, as they think "well I dont want to take a chance, so I'll get the full SLI board". This discourages the mod without actually having to make a new chip. All the boards still mod to SLI to my knowledge, maybe with very few exceptions. I would be surprised if nvidia really does act on their claim and produce a new, non-moddable chip. Its just not worth it to them.

Thanks for pointing that out.. blinky..

DFI's SLI and non-SLI mobo's are exactly the same and both use the SAME nf4 chip .. When modded there is no way for drivers to be able to tell the difference between them..

I could understand that maybe future shipments of chips might be made different which could prevent the actual hardware mod.. but drivers can not tell the difference with the ones that are modded now..

And the fact that DFI has plenty of these chips already bought before anyone even knew they can be modded means they will be moddable for quite some time..

Yea its prolly one of the EASIEST mods ever..hehe..

Much easier then the old bridge closing with cpu's.. this is small but there is much more room around the contacts..

If you are running cards in SLI atm please post a screenie of the drivers your using and showing its running in SLI mode.. If you can it would be appreciated..

Just to help prove that drivers are not able to block the mod..

Yea, the main reason this mod works is cuz DFI uses the same basic layout for all of thier motherboards so reguardless of what BIOS or driver you use it should work.

I'm waiting for 2x Poin Of View 6600GT, they would be mine within couple of weeks. I'm from Bulgaria and can't find a place here to buy a SLI bridge .
But I'll post as soon as I have both the cards and the bridge.

BTW CPUZ reports A3 revision NF4 chipset.

    Some new info all..

    The modding gets better now..

Here is a new NF4 mobo from dfi.."DFI NF4-D".. Its like all the others but the chipset doesnt have SLI and SataII enabled..

Well here is the good part.. It can be modded to SLI and also SataII..

The best part about it.. is that this mobo costs $117. @ mwave.. and then the bridge is $19.99... this makes it a much better deal now then buying the SLI mobo..

I don't suppose there are any 9200's I can mod into 9600's and run SLI, eh?
