    Question package type (socket)

On the processorfinder there are different package types and I don't understand the difference or find something that would explain the different name:

    P4's:

    FC-PGA2-478-pin
    478 pin PPGA
    478 pin PPGA FC-PGA2

    775 pin LGA
    775 pin PLGA

    P-M dothan's:
    478 pin PPGA
    479 pin H-PBGA

(dothan is supposed to be 479 pin but my dothan is 478pin package type )

Can someone explain to me what I am missing here?

I think Intel called their Pentium-M socket "479" to prevent users from trying to put Dothans into their P4C800's (which is exactly what a lot of people are doing today with the adaptor )

yeah I know, they're still 478 pins but it's physically impossible to place a dothan in a 478 socket. Unless you enforce it but then it's broken

    dothan:

    P4:

but that still doesn't explain a thing because there are 478 pin and 479 pin package type dothan's even though they are all 497 socket...

However it seems to be exactly the same. Do you think dothan can fit in my ic7g?

no you would need the adapter and a bios update that incorporates the needed changes to support a dothan processor.

and they are different, check the missing pins P4 has 1st bottom 1st right and 1st bottom 2nd right pin missing, dothan has 1st bottom 1st right and 2nd bottom 2nd right pin missing.

also, afaik the pins correspond to different functions.

but, to the point, I'll put it differntly, is there any differnce what soever other then the package type?
