    Any air cooling overclocking results?

I just looked at pictures so if it was in the text I missed it.

Seems like no one does considering the amount of hype over Venice...no one seems to care much about San Diego or even cache for that matter...but it sure as hell matters.

I was thinking that Troman, but dividers don't really hurt A64 performance. The 4000+ is one third more expensive than the 3700+ as well. Hmmm

    Apologies for the OTT:
Even if you have phase, you can always take a 3700+ and set it to a divider, upp the htt, and simulate results you'd get with a higher divider while keeping the ram speed the same. That's what I plan to do when I get my diego and put it under phase. Take a 3700+ @ 10x320 with a 166 divider should approx equal 265x12 you'd get with a 4000 iirc. . Dividers are a nice way to save a couple hundred bucks, granted one would probably need lower latency ram to avoid the htt crapping out...but still.

    Back OT:

Thanks for the interesting link Loki, and it seems we've all found a home in SD/V, with people able to have a high-clocking chips even if they arn't under hardcore cooling, and those that do will still be happy. 1MB cache is a nice way for us non-fx users to brag about our similar performance at a lower price. Awesome stuff.

looks like the 3700 San Diego is still the best bang for the buck, would be nice to see some air cooled result on both cpu as well.

Hasn't it been pretty well established most San Diego and venice cores do (on avg)2.8-2.9 on air, 2.9-~3ghz on water, and around 3.2 on phase? That seems to be the consensus I get, although of course there is exceptions. Perhaps i'm wrong.

I'd say there are way too few chips out there to make any generalizations like that. I highly doubt any of these chips Diego or Venice are going to be hitting 3.0ghz WITH 100% STABILITY on water, otherwise AMD would be marketing them with higher rated speeds.

My opinion is you will see the same 200-300mhz overclock as with previous cores. Of course everyone's will vary.

3700+ San Diego is 10% faster than 3000+ Venice (same o/c). Yay

I tell people this but many still make the mistake of paying more for a slower 3800+ venice over a 3700+ diego

    Venice 3000+ is, though.

It isn't a question which cpu will be faster as the SAME FREQUENCY. 3800 Venice will clock higher than 3700 SD in most cases and probably by more than 180 mhz

You got some proof, or is this your humble opinion.

    @ LoKi2k,

So what was the max clock achieved with San Diego? There's only max for Venice (SuperPi 1M @ 3169MHz), but not for San Diego.
Also, how far could you take both CPUs as far as that 32M run? Anything more than 2860MHz?

Thank you for a nice comparison

Yes 3700 SD is giving away 200mhz to the 3800 Venice but I see them topping out at around the same place unless less L2 cache = more OC potential? If that's the case, I'll get a Sempron. Joking .... sort of anyway.

Nice final shot of the Venice topped out on phase change on the final page of the article. They are liking the Venice a lot, and clearly are picking the Venice as champ. Its still very premature to even take a guess how things will play out.

I dont get why the San Diego is cheaper. Look at the socket 754 3400's. The clawhammer was 2.2ghz with a 1mb cache, and the newcastle was 2.4ghz with a 512kb cache. Same exact situation as with the 3700+ SD and 3800+ Venice. Yet the SD is cheaper than the venice, but the clawhammer was more expensive than the newcastle. Its funny how these things turn out sometimes...
