dfi nf4 / vx gold help

Ok i have tried every setting under the sun..........the ram can clock up to 260 in memtest all tests for days....no errors....

but in windows nothing is stable - at any speed.......

today i finally narrowed it down.........my vx gold only runs in windows if i use the following:

    2-3-6-2

all of the other settings do not make a difference - i can run everything else super tight - i can even run cas @ 1.5.........but as soon as trcd = 2 windows takes a dump....

were talking 0 errors using windows memtest with trcd=3 but if trcd=2 i get errors in windows memtest before i even click the ok button.....

now my question is - are there any other settings i am missing or is this a limitation of the ram?? or a limitation of the cpu memory controller?

the same cpu can do 300x9 1:1 with ocz tccd so im not really sure where to go from here?

    update settings:

    265x10 1:1
    3.5vdimm
    1.5-3-6-2-7-15-1-2-1-2-3120-1-en-incr-0-8-2-7-5-256-dis-16-7-dis

i would get the same crazy behaviour from 3 different cpu's 3500 new castle a 3200 winny and a 3000 winny........all would go crazy if trcd = 2.........so what do the ram guru's suggest?

Same problem as I have. As soon as I switch tRCD to 2 instead of 3, I get problems when trying to overclock. Did manage to bench 3dmark 2001 with cpu at 2,7GHz and ram at 270MHz with timings 2-3-2-5. The ram is in no way stable in memtest, but somehow, I can bench...

Hopefully you'll get some help, I still haven't found any solution.

well i dont understand it - makes 0 sense to me but here are my timings that just passed memtest dos / memtest windows / 32m superpi

    1.5-2-6-2-7-15-1-2-1-2-1168-1-en-incr-0-8-2-7-5-256-dis-16-7-dis

    260x10 1:1
    3.6vdimm
    331-1 bios

i dont get it.....memtest dos only needs 3.3v with the same settings to pass - so thats why it never dawned on me to increase the vdimm to get windows stable....as soon as i set it to 3.6 all is well (so far) but usually if the ram can pass windows memtest it will pass most anything - that program is extremely sensitive !

i would say the 2 biggest factors in getting things stable so far have been:

    tref=1168
    vdimm=3.6

ok went up to 3.4 Volts today when i got home. Dropped the FSB as low as 225 MHZ and tried to run 1.5-2-2-5. No go. So im back to 3.2 V on the 3.3V line, running 227@ 1.5-3-2-5. Waiting untill I can make a bracket to mount a fan and get some good air on the ram and some new cooling on my CPU. I can live with my 275MHZ OC for now :P

    DAMN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been sitting in front of my pc and hating it for the last two days cause i got the same problem.
I had a pair of vx pc4000 which had to be rma'd cause of memtest errors [it was hating voltage >3.0V].
That pair was able to run 250 2-2-2-5 so i decided that my new pair should be able to do that too.
After waiting 3 weeks to get my ram i plugged it in and after burnin windows crashed within seconds and was unable to boot after that.
I tried all kinds of settings posted on xs or bleedingedge but nothing helped.
More that 220 2-2-2-5 and windows crashed.
Memtest was able to run for 12h @ 250 2-2-2-5 without a single error.
Then i moved to 3-3-3-5 and it was fine so i tried and tried and found out that tRCD was the problem (if only i had seen that posting earlier )
So, whats up OCZ whats the deal with the ram ??
I tried 3.5 V but that didn't help and i really don't want to push it further.
I mean running at 250 2-3-2-5 is not bad but we bought ram that should be able to run at 250 2-2-2-5

this is exactly what happened to my mushkins level2(bh-5) when moving from nf7-s
to the s754 neo mobo. mushkin attributed that to the CPU's memory controller.

ya i can see why people would not want to put 3.6 through but the ocz warranty still covers this amount of voltage so i am cool with it....

3.3v in memtest could do 260mhz error free in every test all 2-2-2-x but windows would bomb out.....

at any rate the order for stability checking for me is this:

    1) memtest dos - be able to loop test 5/6/8 error free before attempting to boot xp
    2) superpi 1m - if 1m passes move on to memtest windows - if it fails back to the bios for more tweaking and then back to memtest dos 5/6/8
    3) memtest windows - pass 1000% coverage of ram (10 full passes of physical ram)
    4) superpi 32m
    5) prime95

after all of that - things should be able to handle most anything you throw at it!!

Good guide! I like the way you have all your memory settings in your sig. That would be a good trend for members.

Hi, getting the correct tref and other timings is very difficult. We can't tell you what to run, because this varies from CPU to CPU. try tref at 0648 taht works for me. Also don't get too agressive with the other timings at first, Try twr at 2 and most others at 3.

let me know how it goes.
