    9800pro to xt problem

i flashed the card with the club3d 9800xt 128 hynix and worked like a charm but the mem timings are very tight

on stock bios i was able to do 440/380
xt bios i can do 440/365

with the current bios editors i can't see the difference in timings, they look the same to me

any ideas besides increasing the vmem

I would try to edit the device ID of the cards original bios to that of an XT to see if you still maintain your memorys overclock.
if that doesnt work, try to open both bioses side by side to find the minute difference. as with the last few bioses i played with only had 3 values different for memory than the original, so they were EZ to miss.

modding the original bios device id was me next option
but i was doing a search and couldn't find anything specific about whethere changing it allows use of the ""9800xt optimized shaders"

from my end it looks like 9800xt has tight arse mem timings to give the ~250 +marks in 3dmark03

i noticed the difference with the BBA 9800xt 256 vs the club3d 9800xt128
the messed up part about it is when i try to put relaxd timings i get errors

From my own testing the optimized shaders actualy come from the drivers. When the drivers install they look at the device ID and from there tell the OS which path the drivers are to install ( and which optimizations each core uses) Now i did 3 tests with an XT bios , a pro bios, and an XT bios W/a pro's device ID. And if ya look at them ya see that the only one scoring higher is the one that appears as an XT. and even tho the card had an XT bios with a Pro's ID it scored the same as a Pro.
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3834595 XT bios
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3819096 XT bios w/pro ID
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3821804 Pro bios

I must note that all i did was take a normal XT bios, and edit the amount of card memory with rabbit to 128Meg for the XT bios. and thats why the card lists as 128, instead of 256

what cooling did you use to achieve the core/mem clocks

just to be sure try out a few benchies to confirm it, since I got my gains from the XT bios/XT id combo. And you are running a Pro bios/xt id ( I would have done this myself, but killed the card within a few days of these tests)

IF you can confirm the gains with a pro bios, and XT id then it will save many in the future time of finding "the right bios"

    using 3dmark03 340
    stock bios 9800 pro w 9800pro ID @ 430/370 = 6035 no vga tweaks

Nice results. Since there are no compare links I will guess that the increases came in GT2, and GT3 correct? Either way tho it seems you have found the "right XT bios"
