Important ! Read if You have problems with G.SKILL LA.....!!!

This is unbelievable - I always had blue screens at higher HTTs and the RAM seemed to be unstable - but my A-DATA was working fine so I didn't understand it and tried to find out - I wanted to be sure why and now I know:

    1) I always tried with the usual Vdimm of 2,8 - 2,85 - 2,9 because I thought that is the right range fot TCCD and my A-DATA running best with 2,9.

    2) That was wrong, G.Skill LA is extremly sensetive to too much voltage, I set the Vdimm in the BIOS to AUTO and it gave me 2,7.

    3) I thought this would never work - but:

    4) STABLE - no problems anymore - 2 x 256 G.SKILL LA at only 2,7 Vdimm !!!

    5) So poeple if You have problems with the G.SKILL try to drop the Vdimm !!!

yep, 2.7v is the sweet spot for my gig kit of LC, too bad they wont go higher than 282 at 2.5-3-3-7

    Did You try 2,5-4-3-7 ? G.SKILL doesn't like TRCD 3........

    2.5-4-3-7 kills benchmarks, that's why I don't use it.

What's Your board? Usually You are right but it depends on the HTT You can get 1:1. If it is high enough 2,5-4-3-7 will be no problem anymore.

It's an MSI K8N Neo2. It doesn't like higher HTTs that 282 in general. I certainly cannot run it at 300x 10 at 3-4-4-8. Just won't boot up. I'm looking at going for an NF4 mobo (likely DFI) when I can raise some funds and sell off my Graphics card and mobo.

Ah, I use the same board yet and still waitin' for my RMA'd DFI NF4.

On NEO2 I also had good results at 12 x 280 with the FX, but it's curious, since I rebuilt my system my board doesn't like the multi 12 anymore.

    I can do 11 x 305 1:1, 10 x 336 with a divider, 13 x 258 1:1 even with BH-5 at 2-2-2-5 but 12 x 280 dooesn't work anymore - the is no post right from the beginning, only a short flash and then the black screen........., maybe the slow-death-syndrome of NEO2 ???

Well, this particular board is only a month old. My old one which I suspected of slow death is infact alive and well. I turned out that my patriot TCCD had gone up the spout!

THX DUMO - this is about what I'm expecting, this could be a future screenie of mine because 3.360 is max stable for me. Funny.

But who knows, maybe my FX likes the DFI board bettter and does a bit more ?

I know that G.SKILL LA requires more Vdimm on DFI NF4 than on NEO2, but no problem at all, I was sick to get always bluescreens till I found out that I do not have to give more than 2,7.

For me it doesn't matter if 2,7 or 3,9 (BH-5), but I have to know this.

So again nice work DUMO - cross Ya fingers for me that DFI will RMA my board before xmas time.....

Same results as Dumo with my Centon's... I need 3.0v for 437 chips, and 2.6v for 504 chips to get past 315Mhz on 3x512MBs.... TCCD is weird.

I was of the understanding that tccd that didn't respond to voltage over 2.85 were older IC's, and that the newer IC's responded well up to around 3.1v. Maybe things have changed again. What ic rev/date do you have?

    This is a good thread.

I'm currently struggling on a new build. After 5 DFI NF4 builds with great success, I'm having trouble getting this last build to fly high mem speeds.

    DFI SLI DR
    2 x Gskill LA 2 x 512
    AMD 3500+

Water cooled. The CPU does 2650mhz fine at 1.68v.

Running 10 x 168 works great and can prime forever.

Running 9 x 295 BSODs or gives big time SPi errors.

Running the LA at 2.5-4-3-7 ....tried voltage from 2.8 to 3.2. It seemed that with 3.1/3.2v I was getting less frequent errors. 2.9v didn't even want to load windows.

LDT x3 x4 doesn't matter. CPU voltage does not matter.

Too much DDR voltage? Other ideas?

Having try from 2.8 to 3.2, why don't you give 2.6 or 2.7 a try, seems to have make the trick for some.

Me too - read the first post and drop the Vdimm for the baybies to 2,7 - should work.

What is the stepping on your Winnie? Is it an 05? It's likely that you got a crappy mem controller.

Have you tried High HTT with a divider to eliminate the RAM as the problem?

didnt make a difference for mine, I was not able to clock higher by dropping to ras-cas4. I used +2 overvolt on my mobo which I believe means its getting 2.7v and I can hit ddr600 semi stable, 3dmark and superPI sometimes crashes but I believe thats my ondie limit. 289x9=2.6GHz works fine though and im still happy, thats not bad for ondie controller.

sorry to hear, hopefully youll hit near ddr600 with Venice. I cant run my ram at rated and dropping from ras-cas3 to 4 doesnt gain higher ocs, this shows me its ondie controller limit too.

Well, my problem is solved...it was indeed a crappy 3500 memory controller. I put another 3500 in the box and BAM...right up to 300 1:1

wow so this confirms 100% that im ondie controller limited! maybe people dont even believe the ondie controller deal but ive seen some not even hit 230fsb with 2x512mb. I actually believe my ondie controller is above average, albet not excellent as I can hit mid 250s with 2x512mb and like 290 or so with 2x256. I am hoping to max out my mobo's HTT with Venice, so I could be talking 322x9=2.9GHz or higher 2.5-3-3-x

Hm, I'm starting to wonder if it was a good idea in general to put the memcontroller into the CPU............

I think its a great idea they did that....generally speaking. Obviously overclocking is not something AMD would have, or should have, considered in the design. From a pure performance standpoint, it works great clock for clock.

In addition, there are upsides. For example, when you are cooling the CPU you are cooling the mem controller as well. I see a lot of great mem speeds coming from phase change cooling.

Also, there was never a gaurantee that you got a good mem controller when it was in the chipset either.
