4200+ and FX-57 news on Clubic

    http://www.clubic.com/actualite-1896...-le-fx-57.html

Ok sorry the link is in french but this article is some kind weird. They said that the 4200+ will be released in Q1 and the FX-57 in Q2.

So the good news is the 4200+ is really ready to go! (Q1 is ending in the end of march)

Well thanks! But if the 4200+ is soon-to-be-released, does'nt that mean that it's the end of the FX-55???

    O.K. - here we go:

"AMD’s Athlon 64 4200+ processor is clocked at 2.60GHz, contain 1MB of L2 cache and sport dual-channel PC3200 memory controller, copying major specs of the currently shipping AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 processor for Socket 939 infrastructure. However, the Athlon 64 4200+ is made using 90nm fabrication processor, sports SSE3 instructions as well as minor memory controller enhancements. Potentially, the chip may also fit into lower thermal envelope than the FX-55 model.

Availability of the AMD Athlon 64 4200+ processor among those affiliated with AMD may indicate approaching commercial release of the chip. Still, the launch is not inevitable just because of that.

According to unofficial sources, AMD’s Athlon 64 FX-57 processor at 2.80GHz made using 90nm Silicon-on-Insulator process technology will be released in Q2 2005. By the time the AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 hits the market, the Sunnyvale, California-based chipmaker will have launched its Athlon 64 4000+ (Q4 2004), Athlon 64 4200+ (Q1 2005) and Athlon 64 4400+ (Q2 2005), some sources said.

Advanced Micro Devices did not comment on the news-story
    ."

So maybe the new 4200 will perform better than an actual FX-55, same structure but 90nm........

What the heck will do a FX-57 then..........

I agree I think we're definitely going to see 4ghz on cascade...

So basically we should see 4200+ 90nm pretty soon then huh.... anyone thinking what I'm thinking? used fx55s for sale, all nice and burned in

Looks like I'll be blowing my money this summer on an FX57. We better see some of this stuff in action at CEBIT damnit, I can't take it any longer!!

Yep - but even that would be a success, first release date Q3 could have been also September 30th..........

Yep - and that's the reason I will buy one, even for $1.500......., but the major question is if the first releases will be the better one or if it will be a good idea to wait for the second or third charge.........

    1) Gawwwwd it would SUCK if the 90nM FX had a cold BUG, lol...

    2) The 4200+ is nice.... with a locked 13x multi, it'll STILL need TCCD, as 26osih from VX won't be enuff when super-cooled! 13 x 260=3380mHz.... With TCCD, drop the multi to 12x and shoot for 300+ or use the 13x and get a nice stable 280+....

If you don't OWN VX/BH5, then there's really not a BIG reason to go FX-57 OVER 4200+, unless you just want Dresden's BEST silicon.

That is almost unpossible - FX-57 will be AMD's new flagship and they cannot allow themselfs such a mistake, otherwise AMD will be ruined.....

Whats wrong with running VX with a divider? I thought 1:1 was only important w/ p4 rigs.

I dont know how much amd cares for xtreme cooling, yes they fx chips are aimed at overclockers but the vast majority are on air or watercooling at above 0c which isnt cold enough for the bug. I thought the 4000+ and fx55 diego was the one to come out, did amd have a last moment change of plans and decided to one up Intel and make it 4200+ and fx57? How low will diego be available in? Maybe amd wants to milk diego with high clocks first before releasing the slower and cheaper 4000+ months later. I am curious about Venice and hope amd doesnt do something to hurt venice clocks, some say they could use ovp, others say deleberate speed binning to make sure only the best cores go to the diego. I will be happy with even just 3GHz on venice

Well they obviously are well aware of extreme cooling otherwise they wouldn't have this article (Log-in required :-/ ) posted at AMDEdge....

Well this will be interesting to see the cold tolerance of diegos. Its gonna need to be able to take -100c to be usable with cascades. No winny I know can handle below -30c and many cant even go into the negetives

    There is an easier way:

    1) One bottle of Whisky less each day !!!

    2) Keep Your wife / girfriend away from shops and destroy her credit card !!!

    3) Sell Your car - You won't do some clocking on the drivers seat !!!

    4) Have a nice smalltalk with the friendly guy at Your bank !!!

    5) Bring one cup of coffee more to Your boss every morning !!!
