my SL7E5 runs at 84 watt where yours is like 103watt
Thats why i stayed away from the EO on the 478 chipset
Only the 3.6E EO or the 3.8E EO are good overclockers.
I think its about the same to tell you the truth on all prescotts i get a max overclock on any chip around 1100-1200 mhz on my vapo chill
im at 4.4 on a 3.2e now. You will probbly see 3.9-4 gighertz on water defently , and lower will be on air
If you want more MHZ you will need to do volt mods on the mobo
Wich volt mods??? Vdrop and Vdimm mod???Originally Posted by Unrealcpu
WIth Vdrop mod and 1,55V on WC how far do you think i can go with this chip? I've an 2.8C M0 here that do 3,9GHz!
Thanks!

I would say with all the volt mods listed and some high speed pc4400 gskill ram it might give you another 150mhz. Thats with air coolingOriginally Posted by eulercdc
UnrealCPU:
I don't think the CPU consumes 103 watt. The 103 watt is a TDP of the loadline A of Socket 478 and the 84 watt is for the loadline B. Northwood "C" was the last generation Intel gave specific wattages for the CPU's. You can find the same wattage on a 3.4GHz/S478 Prescott and a 3.2GHz and 3.4GHz don't consume the same amount of energy. On Socket 775 cpu's you'll find out that 2.8-3.2 (and e0 3.4GHz) are 04A standard and is given 84 watt and 04B (wich "supports" lock free) is given 115 watt on 3.6-3.8GHz and the c0+d0 3.4GHz.
Think the standard is made to protect motherboards that only support the 04A/loadline B from burning. It protects the motherboard by decreasing the multiplier to 14x when a loadline A/04B CPU is detected so it runs 2800MHz and doesn't fry the board. The e0 steppings is just improved so that the 3.4GHz (socket 775) is now 04A.
I think that the wattages on a "84watt" and a "103watt" 3.2GHz Prescott are about 5 watt's in diffrence (diffrence from 2.4C d1 to m0 was about 5-7 watts so that whats another stepping of same frequency and voltage can increase the wattage).
The 3.2E e0 stepping (SL7PN) has the ability to run 14x multiplier in some motherboards such as P4C800 and proberly overclocks 100-200MHz better than the d0 like Socket 775.

Anything above 278 becomes unstable due to the board.
4420 here too.![]()
Although I am stepping up to a modded board next week, so that will hopefully change.![]()

Hi there guys, I tried 2 E0 cpu's last days, a 530J (3.0) and a 540J (3.2) both of them on an AS8 board.
Both of them reach about 3.9GHz with nominal voltage fully stable (stock HSF), needed 1.45v for 4.0GHz and the 540J boots winxp at 4.25GHz but not totally stable at 1.55v, this is all with the stock HSF.
Due to the 15x multi I cant post higher than 4.35GHz with the 530J, but guys, the 540J post at an incredible 4.58GHz / 1.6v with the stock HSF (I can post and navigate thru bios but of course no windows load) at that speed idle temp reported by mobo is about 60Âș.
Note that the AS8 board (at least mine) undervolts vcore about 0.1v at load, that's a lot.
Now waiting to try the 540J on a LanpartyUT 915P-T12.
Regards,
Apocalipsis.

oh, ok I thougt that you were runing them 1:1, mine is 100% stable @ 275fsb but over it's not stable at all, I can run super pi 1m @ 284 fsb, and get a screnshoot @4.7ghz, I really need to do the droopmod because it goes from 1.616idle to 1.43 load

eulercdc Could you confirm if it has the 14 multi option? i've been looking for a sl7pn but it's hard to find..
Should have higher overclock potential then D0 or C0's due to lower voltage requirements for the same ghz.

only 3.6 and 3.8 ghz E0's have the 14 multi option since they draw less power.

I'm getting PC_Ice's modded IS7 next week, so we'll see how volt mods affect things. I, too, start to lose it at 276, although on a cold night I can 3DMark @ 276. With a volt-modded board (and a better PSU) I think I am looking at some improvements.![]()
