Talking Im in the 300FSB Club!!!

If you read my other thread i was having problems with my Gskill RAM.
    old thread is here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...311#post650311
After some great advice i tried using only 1 stick of RAM and i was able to achieve the following...

il be honest and tell you that 315FSB is not stable

But it seems that 310FSB is. 315 would fail prime right away. Ive had 310 running prime for like 5 min and it was ok so far. Im not gona just sit here and run prime cuz i want to play some WOW. Il run prime before i goto sleep tonight though.

Anyway thanks to the people who helped me in the other thread.

Im not done tweaking this out by any means, but i realy need to lvl up my toon in WOW.

TCCD is getting close to 350 now sometimes. Soon maybe to 400. I hope so, because I don't like DDR2 at all. What is the highest 1:1 you've ever seen?

Mister420, nice job! what is the highest you can do with ras-cas3. 315 is impressive but the timings really cancel it out. try your highest ras-cas3 and do a superpi or pifast or 2001se bench to show the gains/losses.

I find the same hting on my 754 system, although not as bad as you have it.

Taking one stick out gets me another 10-15mhz fsb, but with only 256mb of ram its not ideal.

with new bios on my giga nf4 my pqi in 2x512 just broke through 285Mhz 2.7v 2.5,3,3,7 and it think the crash might have been on my cpu limit. Tempted to get some gskill though, from the states its about $270 which is like £145 then a bit of import duty should make it £175ish, in the uk the cheapest i found it is £210, around $380, the UK sucks.

either way dude well done. can't imagine tccd will ever get close to 400Mhz, and its pretty stupid to think so, going from "close" to 350Mhz, (higest i've seen is 330 very slack timings) to 400Mhz is a huge jump.as for not liking ddr2, its faster, if ath 64's were out with boards and cpus that support it we would see it being faster, its just that socket 775 is so freaking slow, such a deep pipe and its like putting a ferrari engine in a stocking great big volvo and expecting it to accelerate as fast .

3,2,2,8 on ocz mem and getting it to high speeds is pretty easy, and IMHO, with a ath 64 with ddr2 mem controller will completely kill anything ddr1 can throw at it. with less fabs though its difficult for amd to make lots of different versions of each diff chip, intel themselves don't make too many diff versions of chips, they just disable crap all over the place for diff celerons, xeons and prescotts.

ddr3 is supposed to arrive to soon after ddr2 did though, and i think waiting for amd makes longer product cycle, short product cycle increases upgrading cost overall and amd is really fighting in the budget area's hardest. wasn't ddr3 supposed to be about in late 2005/2006?

OK i just got to work. I could do 2.5 3 3 7 at 300fsb, but to get higher i had to loosen timings. Here are some screenies...

it seems that i get better mem bandwidth using loose timings with a higher FSB.

even 5fsb higher negated the looser timings. Strange...

Would i be able to gain more stability by changing the trc to something else? I have left it at default so far.

And i will try changing CAS to 3 and see how much farther that takes me later when i get home from work. Then i will also run some 3dmark and see if i can breat my previous scores.

i would at a guess say the unbuffered is slightly better at the 310Mhz lower timings than the higher speed. But also the errm, 35 or so Mhz will bump up the score very very slightly at 315Mhz compared to 310. so they are very similar buffered scores with the drop in timings.

Had to say also that i was trying to get higher fsb, tested at 280 between 2.5,4,4,10 and 2.5,3,3,10 and there was also, like here, surprisingly little diff. i always forget which bits to untick for a unbuffered run though

of course ram bandwidth score is going to be higher at higher speed. run a 1m superpi and 3dmark 2001 bench or AM3. This is where you want to compare the timings vs/speed.

    4200MB/s @DDR600? Are you running 2CMD.

    I hit 4600MB/s @DDR600 and 5000MB/s @DDR650MHz 2.5-3-3-6 1CMD with Gskill

I was thinking the same, your bandwidth is way below level.

    Here's a healthy shot at DDR600 2,5-3-3-7:

That is horrible! you get 4200mb/s at around 260-270MHz with good timings.
1T is a must if you are looking for good performance, you should rather clock it down than enable 2T performance should still be greater if it's that bad. 4-4-8 doesn't help either of course but 2T is the worst.
