How much Vcore can an FX-53 take on air?

So far I've got 1.6V going through the FX-53 to get prime95 to go more than 1 minute with 230fsb/x11/HT3x/VDimm+.2/VHT+.1/VCore1.6. This combo ran SuperPi, 3Dmark03, and 05 without issues but Prime crashed after 1 minute.

Temps are @ 48C (nvidia utility) with 1.6V. How high have you seen the Vcore with the FX-53? Thanx

I wouldn't go much higher than that. It's very normal that they max out that speed with air.

Prime failed after 55min. So I knocked the vcore down to 1.525. Jacked up the HTT to 240/x10, 2.5.3.3.10-2T. Running prime, going to bed and if prime is still running by the morning I'll have a new starting point.

I never run my clawhammers over 1.9v on air, anything below that should be fine as long as it doesnt reach 70C.

1.7v is the max I've given mine for an extended period (few hours). Usually I use 1.6v @ 2.64

Taking off the IHS is a bit much at this point. Don't think I haven't thought of it though. I would be concerned about killing the core.

So far I'm very stable and can cold boot @ 220. I think i'm going to have to get some PC4400 if I wan't to go higher at a cold boot. Maybe I'll wait until someone gets to 600mhz on the ram!

yeah man dont go over 1.7v on air with that thing. i too have a fx-53 and its the same thing your getting 220-230htt 1.65v tops.. now when i put this chip in my phasechange unit i was able to reach 2900mhz using the same 1.65v so these chips arent that bad just gotta cool them... good luck

How bad is that? I've seen some in the 10's so I don't know if that # is good or bad with my system. I only ran these benchmarks a couple of days ago. I don't change any settings in the 3dmark benchies, I just run them as they are.

Any tips you can throw my way is appreciated.

Something is wrong with your system if you're getting those scores. Format and you'll probably see 12000+ in 2003 and 5500+ in 2005.

You think reformating will jack up the scores? I had thought about that but I didn't feel like reinstalling the games as well and losing my saved games on Dawn of War.

I don't have SP2 installed with winxp. Does this make a difference performace wise?

Still, a total reinstall sounds like a good idea.

total reinstall is a good idea, even with basic performance settings in the middle as long as aa/af settings are application preference you should be scoring higher, quite a bit higher.

AS for voltages, there is simply no reason you can't run the 1.75v max you can on your board, 1.6v is low, saying its the max to run safely is ludicrous. People have been running their initial 3200+ 754's from release day at 1.75v and they are still fine, like me. I've always tried boards maximum and as long as temps are fine its always improved clocks a little. I ran my 2800+ for a short time on the dfi at what 2.1v , for a few days, and its still going strong, at 1.8v (didn't get any speed improvement, tried to burn it in for a few days but nothing helped). 1.65 was stock for a t-bred and it was perfectly safe to run 2v+. winchester is the first smaller core made on different process to the t-bred, been running them at 1.75v now for a few days no issues, and 1.65v before that(board limit) for a few months.

Make sure your video card is running 8x agp. With that low of a score, I bet you don't have your chipset drivers installed.

errr..scratch that. your 3dmark05 score tells me otherwise. Either way, you should be 14k 03 and 6.2k 05 no problem...so something is up...

SP1 vs SP2 doesn't make much of a differance. I went back and forth on my build running benchmarks many times.
Agree, make sure you've installed your chipset drivers from the CD that came with the MB. And for all benchmarks run by gaming sites, they leave the slider set a quality, which is the default.
My Asus board has a way to OC the system automatically. When I OC by 10% (220 FSB), it sets the Vcore to 1.70 and everything works fine. I've gone up to 1.725, but above that, it doesn't make any differance. I have water cooling, so heat is not a problem. The highest temperature you should reach is 65c as taken from the MB monitor. Anything over that and you're in trouble. I suggest you run Memtest, you may have to relax your timings like I did. Once you know your memory is good, then you can try upping the FSB and watching your temperature readings.

The chipset drivers on the CD are outdated. Got the updated chipset drivers from nvidia's website.

Are these scores better (in sig)? I moved the sliders to perfomance and I did not reformat.

I would keep your XL memory at 2-2-2-X and see how high it goes, will it run 210Mhz 2-2-2-10? You could try 210x12 or if they will only do 205, 205x12

I thought 1:1 was much better for performance?
