    Thumbs down beta server overloaded

The beta server is getting overloaded by too many people that aren't even beta testers. The mojority of the offenders are from Icrontic and Xtreme Folding. It just takes longer for these to get out of beta and into the general population when this happens.

    thanks for the welcome

well I'm hoping the people would eithier ask to be part of the beta forum and help with the beta testing or stop using the flag so the beta testers can do their job. I don't do folding full time and mainly only help on the beta testing and once thats over I go about my bussiness. one of the things stanford needs to do is add another server. All I want is to get these wu's into the public as soon as possible. really I think they would go ahead and just send them out to everyone soon.

btw the clients have a few bug but nothing serious I have been running the linux client and it's a little faster with gromacs than windows is but it's just the oppisite for tinkers but to a larger degree

    Welcome to Xtreme!
Then how does one go about joining the beta team? I've been testing beta's for as long as I can remember them putting out beta's, but I've never heard of an actual beta team.

I have yet to run into any problems that I thought I needed to report to Stanford. The new beta client hasn't crashed so I haven't reported anything.

I think I'm in the same boat as Tweaked. I've used the beta releases since I noticed them one day and I just thought to be a "beta tester" you had to use the client and report any problems you have.

BTW, here's where I first picked up on the "-betateam" thing:
(note that it's origin is neither Icrontic or Xtreme)
    http://www.amdforums.com/showthread....hreadid=174300

And I see that today something got said about the person mentioning this switch:
    http://www.amdforums.com/showthread....hreadid=174727

If I'm not supposed to know about that switch then I'll remove it to honor Stanford's wishes.

But I have to ask... how does one go about being an "official" beta tester? I have 6 rigs(going to add a 7th shortly) and would love to help out with testing.

If you would like to help test our forthcoming clients, visit our beta section to see if there are any beta clients available for your platform and what their new features are.
    From stanford

This is all it takes to join beta testing. You dont have to sign up, what are you talking about??

Dont even ask where i've been!!!

    Hi guys,

Anyone who wants to be a member of the betatest team just let me know via email, please list machine/ OS you would be using and I can add you to the betatest forum at folding-community.org.

If anyone has any logs from p997 those would be useful as well.

As far as 40 users overloading a server, well not sure overloading is correct, but if the server is loaded up with enough WU's for 20 beta testers and you get 40 it takes longer for the units to go live as we only get to test half of them and provide feedback so in that case it would take twice as long to go public.

    Regards

    John.

I too have mainly only run the beta clients. the last final release verison I ran was 2.15 helping with the beta testing can be very rewarding even if the point weren't great

The third time you go through it, you know you don't understand it, but by that time you are so used to that subject, it doesn't bother you anymore".

Maybe the amount of data uploaded is large enough to cause a problem?? That doesn't seem likely though. email pythagoras and ask to be part of the official beta team, that's what I just did.

its a pain in the a$$ to get a hold of these things though... had to try like 10 times earlier until I got a gromac rather than a p208 ...

Please, please, please dont try 10 times to get a Gromacs

The only way I'm aware of to retry any number of times is to delete the WU that was assigned. Each work unit is unique and the assignment server will wait until the deadline has expired before it resends that unit, could be almost two weeks This delays the whole project for that particular Pxxx project. Subsequent WU's for a particular protein depends on the previous WU.

every time a wu gets deleted it doesn't get reassigned until the deadline is up. which right now is around 10-14 days I think. so if everone is doing this we all will have no work to do. I'm testing out the client with genomes presently once you guys run out of FAH wu's you are more than welcome to do some genomes with me
