    Desktop Pentium M System Questions

I just bought the AOpen desktop Pentium M board and a 755 Donthan. It will be going into an Antec Aria case, which has very little cooling, but also very little space.

I'm sure I'll have to wait until it gets here to completely assess the situation, but in the interim, I have a couple of questions I hope you guys can help me with.

    (1) Will the HS supplied with the AOpen board be enough to cool the 755, even if I overclock to, say, 2.5Ghz?

    (2) I have some Corsair XMS (P/N CMX512-3200C2), but I think it is Rev 1. Will this be sufficient for this system?

    (3) Any other suggestions?

    Thanks.

If your case has poor ventulation don't expect 2.5ghz. If quite is important to you, then I would reccomend you get some nice 120mm fans, they blow alot of air and can be quiet if you get the right model. Stock heatsink might get ya to 2.5ghz then again it might not...I don't settle for stock but thats just me. I would get a nice copper heatsink.
yeah the RAM should be fine. Bascily if its DDR, chances are its gonna work

"Other sugestions?" Copper heatsink, better case ventulation

I'll have to see about the case when I get it. It's a novel approach which I found interesting enough to purchase. The killer will be the video card more than the CPU...it's going to be an ATI AIW 9800 Pro. I'm counting on having to add to the cooling.

Here are some photos of the box in case you're interested: Antec Aria Case

Any recommendations as far as names/brands of heat sinks and/or fans?

I like the heatsink in my sig, I took some 1500grit sandpaper and did a "cleaning" on it. I wouldn't call it lapping tho, just kinda scratched some of the little peices off the bottum and my temps droped by a few degrees. The XP-90 is a nice heatsink...so you might want to ask in the Dothan Overclocking thread about that to see if it will work

    lol.....
these Dothan's are just SILLY, they make like no heat. Intel has broken Einstein's law... they've made energy from NOTHING. Mine uses a Swiftech Northbridge sink at 1.5v and gets a BIT warm...
But then I replaced the 6cfm fan with a 10.5cfm an and now it's cool again!
The Aopen.... well gee whiz, it uses any freeking Intel heatsink, hehehehe a Hyper6 and a Vantec Stealth oughta be good for 2.75gHz

The HS supplied with the aopen board will suit you just fine. But if you want to use another HS, not that you need to, you will have to modify the plastic retension thingy in order to make contact. Because the dothan sits lower. The supplied HS has an addition to the baseplate, se picture it's self explaining.

Easiest way of modification is to sand down the "spacers" on the plastic thingy.

92mm fans are a much easier mod for the ARIA. Highly recommend hacking some holes in that little heater.

Most heatsinks will not work with the case, because you only have about 80mm vertical clearance and horizontal varies depending on the socket placement.

On the RAM, it depends on the divider options, but you may have to run 1:1. It will definitely work, though.

I have one, but it's only of the exterior and I used 120mm fans.

    Checkit out here:

I suggested 92mm, because of the extra PITA it is to make 120mm work. You might actually have to go with 2*80mm ones, looking at that heatsink footprint. Just do some measurements. Recommend either the Thermaltake A2016 - A2018 fans or Panaflos. BG Micro has deals on the Panaflos now.
