Unhappy Anything I can do with a Dell performance wise?

To make a long story short I lost everything in a fire and the only way I could get a comp was to have a family member purchase one for me. He has a business account with dell so I had no choice . I'm already thinking of just selling it and buying something else once it gets here but thought i'd ask if there is anything thing I can do with it overclocking wise. It is one of the new XPS's with the following specs...

    P4 550 3.4ghz
    1gb Dual Channel 4200 DDR2 2x512
    2x74gb Raptors raid 0
    Ati x800 xt pci express
    19' Dell flat screen crt
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2
    5.1 speakers

I plan on installing my own OS when it gets here and trying to see if I can access the bios to make changes, or do you think i'm gonna be outta luck? I can make a few changes if needed to make the system viable like change the case and mobo if needed. Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

you can part out the inside, the dell bios will not let you do anything.

Best advice I can give you is get a new mobo/case/psu, as dell's are all propritary. everything else you can take out of that box.

    sorry for the bad news

There might be a Windows based overclocking utility you could use. That's how alot of Laptop overclocking is done. For Clockgen you just need to ID the chipset the mobo is using.

personaly i think that dell box is relly nice... ( )
but i would have to agree with "DevilsRejection" is u wanted to overclock ur gona need a new mobo, psu, and case ... u could thrw some cheap new parts in the dell and make it a little file server or something.. i have over 100 dells at my work ,not any XPS's though, and all of them are very reliable little boxes.

I doubt you'll need new everything. I'd try just swaping out the mobo for an overclocking friendly one.

Look on the Dell's mobo for a small clock crystal next to a little chip. The chip should be labled ICS followed by a short code. That's the clockgenerator circuit. If there is a ClockGen or FSB program which is compatible with that clockgenerator circuit, technically you should be able to OC the Dell. It doesn't rely on the chipset btw, although certain clockgenerators are not compatible with certain chipsets. Oh, and for 3D performance, do some graphics overclocking.
