btw, just ordered the AOpen board since it has a lot more space in the CPU socket area PLUS it has connectors for front panel USB

charlie, a chipset limitation (amount of PCI slots) might be a reason why we see only mATX mobos. Not sure about this thou.

"Oh, and what divider raios are available?"

DFI bios offers 1:1, 4:3 and 5:3 for RAM divider, AGP/PCI 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 and 1/6 are listed in the BIOS but I'm not sure if they all work (boot at 150FSB w/ 1/5 for instance wont load OS). AGP/PCI fixed option is available too.

"Macci: Did you tired it with DDR Booster yet..??"

Nope, I just did the easy FB->GND resistor mod, also the mobo has only two ram slots and I'm going to use 2x512MB so there is no space for booster. Also I think I read that the booster wont work w/ the DFI mobo. Vdimm is regulated from 5V rail btw..
So far I've hit 253MHz 2-2-2-5 w/ Mushkin PC3500 256MB stick. Does that already at around 3.35V and increaseing Vdimm didn't seem to improve things at all - so I'm guessing a chipset limitation again..(these sticks pass 3DMark on S939 board in DC mode at 270+).

Might go and pick up a 2G dothan from the stilt today
    20x multi should be enough (20x170 ).

    thanks for the info....

Being a bastard (as usual), macci didn´t get my 755 chip because I also receive my Aopen board tomorrow I have quite big expectations since this chip is capable to run SuperPI at 2435MHz with passive (most of the time) heatsink which contains one heatpipe, with ~ 1.2V vcore in my laptop which certainly isn´t the most optimal platform for this chip

Anyways, I just ordered one of those 765 (2.1GHz) chips, since I got some tax refunds...

Hay thanks for reminding me about those !! Soon I have two mobos so maybe I need to get a 2.1G too - and cos of tax refunds it doesn't even hurt too much - haha sounds like a great plan
hmm or maybe I can live w/ a 2G CPU since its so much cheaper.

btw, the 1.7g chip has been running w/ passive CPU cooling (just the stock DFI heatsink + normal case cooling (all case fans set to minium speed)) for the last 35hours @ 2168MHz 1.25V Vcore

edit: just tested Doom3 timedemo (1024x768, noAA, noAF, high quality) and it hits 94FPS at that clock w/ stock X800XTPE <- beat that w/ passive cooled FX55 (note: stock FX55, 2.6GHz w/ max ram tweaks hits ~97-98FPS)

The only reason I'm not buying one right now is because of the chipset.
It sucks and €250 for a motherboard full of old technologies seems like a waste of my money.

My DFI 855 came in today and I have a 2.0 Dothan.

I will be doing a few mods to the board, one to relocate the capacitors that sit 6.6mm from the CPU socket.

The HSF mounting holes are 41mm apart and the evap head is 39mm

I will be running a heat pipe from the evap to the chipset.

    Lastly the core mod.

I dont see adding a Vapochill or Mach unit without modding the evap housing or moving the caps.

Im loading a HD and I will post some air screen shots. I have images to upload as well.

the Dothan pioneers are "on the job"!! Way to go, FUGGER and Macci!!!!

edit, and fwiw, the 1.7Dothan is about the same price as a 3400+ NC

and an aircooled 2.4gHz Dothan does the spanky spanky on the aircooled 2.6gHz NC.......

I figured i'd give one of these puppies a try, if I don't like it, it will go up FS. (I'm eying a 1.7ghz right now)

I'm almost positive I can mount my Mach1 on the aopen board due to its universal P4 mounting design.

You're still talking nearly $500 for the cheapest of the cheap. That's kind of insane for someone just trying to build a normal system out of one.

These chips look awesome, but it will take some time for them to come down in price and for some real boards to come out.

FUGGER's results are only going to leave us with blue balls.

Ahh yes, I should be getting the Dothan + DFI + 6600 around Christmas. I was going to continue using my 5800, but I kind of need all the PCI slots.

I guess I have to cancel my order on the DFI 855GME-MGF from my local store. I left a 10% deposit with them to try and get this mobo for me but they aren't even able to give me an ETA for the arrival on this item. So I will use my deposit for an order on a dothan chip and then order the DFI from newegg.com.
Anyone know how long I should expect an order to take from newegg.com to Vancouver,Canada? Also will tax/duties bring the cost of this up on me as it crosses the border?

Still deciding which dothan to get. any suggestions? 1.5,1.6 and 1.7 for $288,$275 and $331 respectively. I don't know why the 1.6 is cheaper than the 1.5 but I'm guessing I should definetely pass on the more expensive lower clocked 1.5?

Also I'm selling my OCZ Platinum Rev.2 TCCD Ram and instead going for something cheaper. What's the cheapest PC3200 Ram that will run cas 2 at PC2700 speeds? Or will this setup not suffer from running lower 2.5 and 3 cas latencies?

p.s Anyone know if the fan on top of the heatsink of replaceable in case it craps out? Actually how is newegg with warranties should my board fail to work? Thx in advance cuz I've never ordered anything online b4.

    Newegg doesn't ship internationally, unfortunately.

I have the Dothan up and running and this thing is a monster with a little 40mm fan on it.

Running stock vcore with stock hsf that came with the DFI board (Retail 755 doesnt ship with HSF).

It will do 2.5Ghz no problem and 2.6Ghz is where it gets a little unstable. I will address cooling shortly. I just wanted to get some benches in stock.

And I have a board on the way also...just time to buy a cpu now

I have a feeling we will see a new breed of boards in the newyear also, 533 bus, ddr2 maybe!! etc etc.

this little mobile may jusy save intel if they start pushing it.
