    New Northwood Stepping?

    Hello Xtreme people,

yesterday I bought a 2,53Ghz northwood processor and wanted to check out the stepping at http://processorfinder.intel.com to see if I was lucky enough to have a C1 stepping, but... If I enter my sSpec number or my product code, it can't be found in the database...

Then I tried to find it by selecting the 2,53Ghz P4 and let the site show all the sSpec codes and stuff, but mine wasn't there eiter (doh, but I had to try).

    My info:

This is taken from the box:
    Prod. Code: BX80532PE2533DSL6EV
    MM#: 848888
    FPO/Batch: #7236A384
    Version#: A99825-001
    Pack Date: 10/16/2002

    This from the core:
    SL6EV Philippines
    7236A384-0462

The 2,53Ghz p4's at the Intel site:
    SL6EG 2.53 GHz 533 MHz FC-PGA2 478-pin
    SL6DW 2.53 GHz 533 MHz FC-PGA2 478-pin
    SL685 2.53 GHz 533 MHz FC-PGA2 478-pin
    SL682 2.53 GHz 533 MHz FC-PGA2 478-pin

    My theory:
Why should it not be on the website? Well, maybe because it is the newest stepping or version and the site isn't updated yet?
So I may have a C1, a newer type of it, or maybe the successor of the C1?

    What do you guys think?

    btw:
maybe posting this in the 3D Mark Team forum is a nice idea because they are into overclocking too or do you think they will also be on this part of the forum often enough?

    That's a B0 stepping you got there.

SL6EG and SL6DW are the newer C1 steppings.

sorry, maybe I'm being stupid or something, but I can't find the SL6EV there... I also used the search the program offers...

You mean you checked al the C1's and saw it isn't one so it has to be a B0?
sorry, but I really can't find the SL6EV stepping there...

I've got a 2.53B SL6EV stepping too, didn't find it in the spec sheet either.

Overclocks great though! 3.06Ghz w/ 1.55vcore and 3.2Ghz with 1.65vcore. Great overclocks imo if you consider the supercrappy PSU (12V = 11.2, 3.3V= 3.0, vcore fluctuates 0.1), regular H²O cooling (temps stressed 45~50°C) and a bad overclockersmobo (MSI 845e).

    How's yours overclocking?

At this moment, my overclocking is none, in fact, it is underclocked 2533 mhz, because it's not working yet...
    Reason:
I am eagerly waiting for a Gigabyte 8INXP which has Dual Channel DDR, 1000Mbit NIC, normal RAID, Serial ATA RAID, and very nice overclocking options...

but I expect a nice OC, since a bought a Qtec 550Watt PSU and lots of people have told that it has very good voltages...

I also have 2x 256 PC2700 Kingston CL2.5 ram so running the fsb on 166 mhz instead of 133mhz (664mhz instead of 533mhz) shouldn't be a big problem.

My cooling will at first be the normal Boxed fan, but when it has been up and running for about a week and I have tested and played along with some stuff, I will probably install watercooling.

BTW: happy to hear about your overclock, gives me some hope...
how hot does it get and what is your max oc?

and what motherboard do you actually use?

3.2Ghz (169FSB) was at 1.65vcore real (1.725 bios). 2 120mm fans were blowing at full speed on my black ice2 rad and it was pretty cold outside, so my processor temp was "only" 44°C stressed (folding).

I currently use a MSI 845E Max2 mobo, but I want to replace it with one that supports the 3:4 divider at 133FSB, and not only at 100FSB. I'm gonna change the no name 300W PSU with a decent 550W too, so I hope I can reach 3.3Ghz.

I don't know which mobo to get though. Waiting for GB mobo's to arrive in Belgium is no option... any ETA on your gigabyte mobo? Where are you going to get it?

The abit BE7 seems nice but a lot of ppl have bios probs. The asus p4pe is too expensive, and I can't find the epox 4pea anywhere in Belgium.

I live in The Netherlands, and I do not know the official ETA of the Gigabyte but I guess it's half december.

Another nice Dual Channel DDR motherboard (also has the Granitye Bay chipset) is the Asus P4G8X (Deluxe), has nice overclocking options too, a little bit less good than the Gigabyte, and it also had normal RAID and I believe the Asus also has FireWire support, the Gigabyte doesn't have that.

    Review of both:

    btw:
let's contact on MSN/ICQ to talk about Granite Bay and P4 Oc'ing and stuff like that?
