i have a 3500+ winchester @ 2,8ghz 1,65v running on abit av8
in all threads the 3200+ is better to oc than the 3500+ winchester,
with which I have more chances the crack the 2,8ghz @1,6v stable? 3200+ or 3500+?

That all depends. If the 3200+ has a Leprechaun in the plastic thing that holds the cpu in place in the retail box. The ones with Leprechauns will fly up to 2.8ghz on pixie dust, but the real test is done by the Ice gods. The Ice gods have problems with the winchesters, because of the mystical silicon which lies within the fairy ring. I would try to obtain the silicon rod from the great mountain of winchester and maybe you will prosper in fullfilling your quest to harness the Leprechaun. Maybe this will provide you with the wisdom...

The 3500 seems to overclock just alittle farther *sometimes*. So I'd either get the 3200 since its cheaper, but if money doesn't matter get the 3500. Yeah 2.8ghz is possible with these things, but aim for 2.6ghz @ first so you don't lose hope if it can't do 2.8ghz
Admit it. You photoshopped thatOriginally Posted by trans am

Photoshop? You've done that in paint. lol neat pic. Anyway. Either chip is great. The 3200 will just save you a few bucks, which could go for...more RAM? Better RAM? better 3D card?
I don't understand why he would even think of buying a 3200+ if he already has a 3500+ @ 2.8. I guess he could take his chances with the 3200+ and hope the Leprechaun is inside the box, but when's the last time you actually saw a Leprechaun? I haven't seen one in at least 3 months.
lol good quite trans_am.
on topic:
If your just trying to try out another Winchester, then get the 3200, you already have a 3500 so it'd give you a better idea on how different chips do. I know it changes from chip to chip but it can't hurt to try out another kind of chip.
are you wanting to mess around with higher volts and just don't want to risk that 3500 @ 2.8ghz?
What do you guys think of starting a thread that features the AMD64 Winchester or fx55 "Leprechaun Edition" cpu's? These will be 700mhz+ over stock speeds only. Members can list dates, stepping, model, speed, etc.Originally Posted by pc ice

I don't quite understand. You state that 2.8GHz @ 1.65V is not so good, but 2.8GHz @ 1.6V is your goal. The difference is only 0.05V. What's the big deal?
Maybe he's trying to lower his electric bill?
yes 0,05VOriginally Posted by conrad.maranan

Just ordered 2 3200+ Winchesters. One from Monarch and 1 from newegg. Monarch just got a direct ship from AMD yesterday, so it may contain a leprechaun.
Thats pretty much what I'm planning to do. What MB you going to use?Originally Posted by trans am
