    18,000 Btu?

I was wondering I havent seen any real big A/C's turned into chillers. How low would temps go with a 18,000BTU A/C.

    Lowest is ambient temp.

    what are you talking about?

18kbtu is around 1/2hp. so on a single stage it would hold better temps them a mach1 or 2 if made well. but it will run your engery bill through the roof more then anything.

you should learn how to make a chiller probly before you even worry about phasechange.

The question is about a chiller. Question is how cold would coolant temps get with this big of a compressor.

chillers normally will do around -40c but under load it will drop depending on the heat sources

I don't think it'd be worth it. While the inital investment may be smaller then purchasing a prebuild phasechange system (like a vapo ls) the "Xtreme" energy bill would probably even things out in the end.
Another thing is an 18000 btu chiller would have a limit on how cold it could make the water, and from then on it'd just have a LOT of extra capacity.

well a 1/2 hp or so i dont think is smart for a chiller. your going to waste Alot of engery just to chill a cpu. buy a custom phasechange unit if you want subzero temps just for the cpu.

making a Subzero chiller isn't very smart IMHO, your going to have condenstation issues like Crazy, and you'll need to proof all tubeing blocks, and cards and mobos. You'll kill something faster then you can find the max overclock on the system.

18kbtu is actually 1.5 HP. Much too big to be practical IMO.

if 18 000 btu is to much for a chiller, 9000 will still be to much I presume?

I think i missunderstood him. I thought he was talking about a hell of a radiator which can handle 18.000 BTU like a lake or a nuclear power plant. So my answer was like it dosen't matter how big your radiator is it won't cool under ambient temp.

    I misstranslate "chiller". Sorry.
