Do you think its possible to get a 3200+ bench-stable at 3ghz with only a -28 unit? Or is it simply to warm?

I have my winchester 3000+ @ 2.13 atm with 250*8.5 with HTT @4
just testing the ram here
oh and thats @ 1.472v 30degrees stock cooling
Mine:
Cooling:
XP-120 + 120mm papst ngl
PIC
Runs Spi1M @ 2572MHz w/ default Vcore (1.408V)
with sligtly higher Vcore (1.63V) a bit better:
SuperPi 8M => 2674MHz
SuperPi 1M => 2711MHz
Think that this Gigabyte mobo I'm useing is somewhat Phucked - superpi is about the only software that actually runs without errors. Gotta try with other mobo and see if the results improve.
Hmm... There sure doesnt seem to be much difference between the 3000,3200 and 3500 in terms of max clock...that higher multi would sure be nice though

Well there the same chip basically - just different multi. w/ S754 stuff I was able to get 50Mhz higher clock out of 3000+ than 3400+. Higher default clock doesn't always mean higher OC result. (as we all know).
I would have taken the 3000+ s939 model but only the 3500 is available here at the moment.
Macci...would better cooling on the chipset lead to higher htt:?
I know several months ago I thought I remember you doing an LDT Vmod on one of your s754 boards....did that have positive results?
I cant wait to see your results when you start cooling that puppy!

Heh I've never even replaced the nForce default cooler on these A64 boards - no chipset vmods either - just maxed bios values.
I did vmod pretty much all the voltages I found on ASUS K8V via mobo and even used pelt+water on chipset but back then AGP/PCI speeds were the limiting factor.
So as far as I can tell chipset cooling ain't a big deal but then again i've never reached 400FSB. 360FSB was 3D stable w/ stock K8N Pro chipset cooler thou.
But the extra cooling never hurts eh??
Right on...thanks
This is the first setup I have ever owned that I cant max out the cpu....
I think this chip could easily do 9x340 or better.....

Charlie, what's your ambient temperature? I always wonder why my oc result is so sucky compare to other XS result, then it turned out that the ambient that you guys get is like -2 and mine is 30+ degrees! LOL
whats wrong with a low room temp? I've been opening my window sometimes and getting a nice 60* F temp. Gives me an idle of about 36...altho I could probly get that in regular room temp since my case is arounf 85-90*F and goes to around 80 with the windows open....
It's celcius, not farenheit
24C.... this chip will do much better when it gets coldOriginally Posted by arj
yeah I know I'm an American who just went through a Metric class...I learned so much...now it just went away...lol
And whats a benchable speed on air? spi 1m or 8m or sumthing please...air
oh, yeah...Originally Posted by macci
still working at it.... 24C ambient, Hyper6, 80mmTornado, in case....closed windows. Will set it up on a bench near window tonight for maybe 15C.
a little better...
boosted Vcore to 1.66v, Vdimm to 3.6v...
9 x 304 = 2740, 31s
Later tonight, I'll go for 2765, which should give 30s.
30s on AIR is decent....

Looking good Charlie...
I figured Id post what I got so far before Macci makes me look silly
I think this CPU has about 100 mhz left in her if I can get past the HTT problem

omg mikem how did you get it that high? I've never seen anyone overclock that high before.
mikem,
mmmmmm... nice. Yeah, my current bottleneck is my RAM, my BH-5 is only good for about 255 @ 3.7v.... so when I'm at about 310htt, I run out of ram @ 5:4.... and the 133 hit would be too big

MikeM has a phase change cooler for his CPU similar to a "freezer".... it directly cools the CPU down south of -50C.... this cold temp allows the CPU to run MUCH faster than stock speeds! Hang out here and you'll see 6 gHz Pentium P4's and Athlon 64's at nearly 3.8gHz........

XS.org is a great place to be....sometimes we act a little weird (Saaya talking about beat his head open until fairies with bad breath come out....) but for the most part we can help you reach insane overclocks
i think i may have broken my HD :S 290fsb corupted badly, then i re-installed and 2650mhz gave me a list of chkdsk errors as long as a really long thing... like 1000 or so...i'm a bit worried i cooked th HD or mem controller :S

Woah, that is damn sweet on air charlie. I'll almost have the same rig as you. Getting the 1gig of TCCD pqi shortly after. My mobo and cpu should be here on monday or tuesday at the latest.Originally Posted by charlie
Are you worried bout the hyper 6 bending your mobo? I was thinking of putting as bootlace strap around the top end of the heatsink and tie it onto a supporting metal bar in my case. Some reviewers stay even if it doesn't fall off and smack onto my x800xt pe! It might still cause microscopic cracks in the pcb of the mobo. That's what I'm afraid off. Anything to ease the weight.
Still one excellent cooler for anyone who dares living with it!
