hmmm dav and jjman, what did you get with the stock retail heatsink?

you both reached around 50C under load, to me that sounds rather average, but then again im not used to a64 temps and dont know how big the difference is to axp and P4s...

heheh yeah dav, i guess hong kong is quite hot now ^^
what was your room temp with air conditioner on? and jjman? what were your room temps?

and i dont think as5 makes such a big difference, maybe 2C for load temps maximum

thx jjman, the site works now
there one pic on the top of the page that doesnt work for me though, and wth is that tiny car with a heatsink and fan???

i've heard alot about people getting the same temps... but getting higher overclocks...
that was with lapped down to copper not quite mirror finish (800 grit i believe)

It's a sweet heatsink. Gets about the same temps with an ~38dBA fan as my slk900 did with a tornado.

i didn't measure it... but I think it is around 24C when air-con is on..

5-10C reduction is bull. Well MAYBE 5*C in perfect circumstances, but I honestly don't notice any difference between any thermal paste I've used. I use AS5 over white goop most of the time because I just assume I get ~2*C from it, but if I'm out or cant find my AS5, I use white stuff and don't change it until the next time I pull the rig apart.

Frankly, if your TIM is playing a 10*C role... you REALLY need to lap your heatsink.

I think an important factor affecting my system temp is the case airflow.... obviously the airflow is not strong enough to take away the hot air...
the two 120mm fan came with the case have 39 CFM only...

ok i have re-applied the thermal paste again.
however haven't got new fans yet..
but I have measured the temps again..

this time... fan direction reversed, blowing outwards the CPU..
    and case closed.

    startup
    37/26

    full load
    55/35

    after 10 mins
    45/33

look a little bit better... and hopefully could be further reduced a bit after i got better case fans...

heheh yeah I got a wild hair to create somethen silly....again. :P

Never even tested it at stock with this core I have now. I have the 3400+ w/1meg cache @ 2.2ghz. First chip was a 3400+ w/512k @ 2.4ghz. At stock on that chip I would hit 65c under load and idle around 54c I beleive. I cant remember 100% but I remember thinken it was high even under load with NO o/c at all.

Room temps are nearly always at 75f average. My computer room is the hotest room in the house. :P

I have this 3400+ 1meg chip clocked from 2.2 up to 2.4ghz now. 240fsb x 10, 333mhz on ram (comes up to 400mhz after clock) and I set my ht from x5 to x4 (I believe that sets it from 1000mhz to 800mhz)
CPU volts are 1.65v, Ram is 2.8v, NB is 1.7v, SB is 2.6v, AGP 1.6v, HTV 1.25v.

It appears 100% stable at these clocks and running right this second on this post its 78f in my computer room and the cpu is idle at 51c. Under load after 10 full minutes of FULL heat load it gets to 59c. I've watched the temps the past few weeks off and on and Ive seen it idle at 42c with this overclock. Today however its been pretty warm so its idleing even warmer. But when I have run Prime95 I havent been able to hit over 59c on any given day with an o/c.

I also have AS5 on this cpu in case it matters to someone here.

Ive put this board in a case now and Im gonna run another test WITHOUT a fan on the heatsink to see if it can actualy run in a case at idle and under full loads. Ill try and run them for 30 min at full loads to see if my air flow in my case can keep this cpu cool enough without a fan even on it for normal use.

Ill post later when I get to it

If I have missed anything or need to reword somethen, let me know. Ive not slept for awhile and I feel I might have missed somethen important but cant tell what it is. :P

Seems not doing well with just about -8C from stock HSF.
Perhaps it's becoz I do not have AS5...
With my Athlon 64 FX 53 and Asus A8V Deluxe (Rev 2.0) I get a CPU temp of 31 degrees C idle. I am using the Coolermaster Hyper6 with two Delta 8CM fans. Full load after running Sandra Burn in test for 2 hours straight and then checking the temp is about 38 degrees C.

Case closed at all times. Tests done at default voltage which is reported in the bios as 1.53V.

Not using Artic Silver 5. Is it better to use it?

Run the stress test for an hour or two and then check.

i heard someone has lapped it all the way to reveal the copper..

do you know how much temp drop could it give for lapping it?
i have never lapped a heatsink anyway...

a few degrees most likely. Try lapping the IHS and the base and see what you get

Manoj...yeah it's best to use a high quality thermal compound like AS5..try it...I'm sure you'll see improvement of ~3c
