    nvidia 6600GT overclock and scores

    From the web

    http://gzeasy.com/itnewsdetail.asp?nID=15842

For $200 this is looking to be an excellent mid range card, looks like it overclocks well also. I think it will provide a lot of benching fun and be good for games ( looks like 1600x1200 is fine for games which is good for a midrange card ).

Shame it is only going to be launched as PCIe to start off. Mind you, I'm thinking an nforce4 or VIA SLi PCIe board and two of these would be very very nice as a games rig.

    Regards

    Andy

Well it is half the pipelines and vertex units of the 6800U but is 500Mhz v 400/450, so if you double the numbers up it is actually faster

It's only half the bandwidth of course being 128 bit bus but again only has to draw half the screen ..

    So it is looking good.

8 pipes with 128-bit is a little odd but i guess they had to do it so it wouldnt outdo the high end fx series.

It DOES out-do the FX, look at the 3DMark03 scores...

Yes they are...I thought it was going to be available on the high end cards only?

Otherwise you could spend 2x$400 and have something faster than a $500 card.

LOL! You said the exact opposite not long ago, and only because of the 128-bit memory path.

FX cards are overdue for drops, 9800s may not drop as much. Nvidia fans will now ditch their slower fx cards in favor of the 6600gt but ati guys have no reason to drop their 9800s unless ati makes something like an x800se

there IS such thing as an x800se, but its just for places like dell to put it in their compy's.

i wouldnt be surprised to see an x700 series matching a 9800xt (to become midrange), as thats all they've got between their x600 and x800 series.

ati does need the x700 series with 8 pipes and 256 bit ram to crush nvidia's 6600s

What would be even crazier is if Nvidia releases a PCI express version of the Geforce 6800 and allow SLI. Dual 12 pipeline cards..drools...

yes SLI 6800 ultras should be out there, thats what Alienware has been advertising forever now.

people get 3dmark04 cause they are beta testers.
any person leaking 3dmark04 would probably live to regret it, and so would we, cause then they would change it and delay it.

You're right...but I think when you factor in SLI, 2x6800U will pull far away from the vanilla version...but so will the price tag.
