I just got two ARC-1883x and ARC-8026-24 SAS expanders from areca to test. Unfortunately I am seeing very similar bottlenecks to the ARC-1882 I tested before. I think its a limitation of their linux drivers. I am seeing fairly decent (for 30 disks) 3 GB/sec read speeds but I can't break 2 GB/sec write. This is on a raid6 array. Sometime in the next two weeks I will likely be doing a test with the unit in JBOD mode just to verify this isn't some limit due to running in raid6.

Something I've always noticed about the Areca cards is that 4K with QD32 and above doesn't seem to scale as well as LSI w/ fastpath or even onboard Intel. Not much of a concern for me in real world usage, but its still interesting. The rest of the numbers just destroy my current setup. Will probably end up selling my Intel card and upgrading. Although I might wait for the 1883ix release. 8GB of cache sounds awesome.
Any chance we could get some Anvil runs with 4GB+ test size?
The write test for 4k QD16 was cut off. That being said, the low queue depth numbers destroy my setup.
I have been testing with some HGST 12Gb/s SSDs and have also ran into scaling issues, but on a windows 2012 platform. A real headscratcher , i cant seem to break over 70K IOPS! Im sure its something stupid i am doing.

I got tired of waiting for the 1883ix. Newegg had an open box 1883i for $500 so I decided to go for it. I figure if I really need to have the 1883ix in a few months I can just sell this card on ebay. Computurd, did you ever figure out your scaling issues?

Still testing with this card, but as previously noted, the higher queue depth results don't scale at all with this card. Here are Anvil results with 4 drives vs 8 drives. Besides the sequential numbers, basically nothing scales.
There is a problem with their drivers, which they are working to resolve.

I have an IX. When I got it there were only two in the world. The one Areca had at the Computex booth and the one they handed me. The drivers are still funky so I haven't been able to set any records with it yet.

I am new to this (Using a RAID controller) I got an Areca ARC-1883ix-12 for a video editing system with ASUS X99-E WS motherboard and Intel 8-core i7-5960k processor. I previously had four 4TB WD Black HDD in a 16TB RAID 0 on the previous motherboard. Now that I have the X99 and the RAID controller, I want to setup the same plus a fifth 4TB drive in a RAID 3 so that I have 16TB with a hot spare.
But the Areca card arrived and I have no idea how to set it up. The manual is a bad translation and the software CD has all kinds of stuff on it that I don't understand. The website is also a mystery to me. I have no idea what to install into my Windows 7 machine. Will someone please tell me what I need to get started and step-by-step on how to get it working?
Also, tell me about anything else I need to install. I read somewhere about a battery backup module?? What else?
