TBH, neither did I! The light was just right that afternoon. The one that surprised me the most was that white goose's very bright blue eyes.

Nope, no diffuser on those. It was either full power or -1/3 stop flash eV, bare bulb. I still haven't been able to get a Yongnuo, so I made due with the on-camera. It did a good job at that kind of distance. IIRC, the 70D (and all xxD I think) flashes are a bit more powerful than the Rebel series and they pop up further away from the body.
I like that B&W too; the blurred clouds are a nice touch.
