Can you post the steps of how you did it...? I would like to give it a go. I also look at this WIN Azure calculator http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pr...rtual-machines but did not get very far since I was not sure of the options you used. Free extra crunching for our XS WCG team, even for a limited time period, looks like a must try option to me.

I followed the guide at Ripple: https://ripple.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=5124 and started 2x8-core + 1x4-core Ubuntu instances. Additionally I changed the cc_config.xml files to add <report_results_immediately>1</report_results_immediately>, so that in case they remove the instance, all completed results are not lost.

I haven't tried EC2, since I don't see any free trial option there. Maybe they stopped offering it..

Thanks for the info Mumak. Free credit is definitely $220.00 here so it must be adjusted for the country's currency. I will set up the windows Azure instances tomorrow. I am also going to have a look at "AWS Free Usage" which apparently offers up to 750 hours per month of t1.micro instances running Microsoft Windows Server for free. Have you tried it?

Quite true NKrader when you consider a singleton effort for approximately 7 days and 425 K WCG points. However if you were to multiply this by 50, 100 or 200 active XS WCG members doing the same than the overall achievement becomes much more significant. I'm afraid unless a big bunch of people are willing to spend buku dollars on hardware and power or cloud instances, this is inevitable. It would take 150 machines like Dave's 300K WCG rig to match them, never mind take top spot in the dailies. I noticed you can get GPU enabled cloud instances now as well. If WCG gets more OpenCL work I think we'll see some really freaky numbers being put up.
