    New projects....when?

We all hope for new projects this summer. But shouldn't we have seen some beta wu's by now? Or doesn't it work like that?

Once they get past Alpha they get put through closed beta. Once they get through that they go to open beta (where we get to see them), then if they get through THAT they get officially announced and start production. The new work will come ... it's just a matter of faith and patience. I know it's not easy but it's what it is.

Like Sparky, I'm fine as long as we don't run out of work.

I was just curious about the beta work. I don't remember seeing beta wu's for the last projects that were added.

Have you seen the latest SekeRob's dashboard? http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...Pi1Project.png
In the last column there's "p22" with no data.. Wondering if this is something new, or just a bug...

I suspect it's something new. He's very good at keeping those things in good order so I doubt it's a mistake or bug.

The better question is "When is it Friday for the server with the Beta WU's?"

Good question. I double checked I have allowed Beta and GPU work on all rigs.

In this posting of a WCG article under "So What's Next" a new Cancer project is mentioned coming this fall.

Hi everyone, to ease speculation.. yes we're still on track to launch our next cancer project in (hopefully early) fall. We're currently in alpha testing and will release to beta once we're ready. Yes, although it's a cancer project from the same scientific team as HCC, it uses a completely different line of research and is therefore a brand new project and not a continuation of HCC. Yes, we will launch on CPU first with potential for Android later and maybe even GPU some time in the future.

I would hope preference would be given to GPU over android since a GPU can get so much more work done.

I'm not running this kind of software on a mobile device like that. They just aren't designed for high loads for long durations of time. I'd be worried about long-term damage from heat soaking.

Well, the problem is it's much easier to get things ported over from CPU to android than it is to port it from CPU to GPU. I think they're just doing the quickest thing first so that they can start getting some results.

They're aware people want more GPU work. It was one of the findings from the member survey a while back. Android work is an interesting avenue because there are so MANY devices. Got an older phone/tablet that's been replaced but is new enough to contribute? Bung it on the grid. It will consume very little power and if it cooks, well it was already replaced. I don't expect it will make a huge splash though. Most of the people that replace their phones every ten minutes aren't exactly philanthropically minded individuals.
