thermal pad/paste for stock NVIDIA heatsink

I am thinking about finally swapping out my SLI GTX 470 setup. They are currently water cooled with full cover blocks. I still have the original stock heat sink/fan that I will put back on them, but need a recommendation on thermal paste for the GPU. Also a recommendation on what thickness, type, or brand of thermal pad to use if any need replaced.

Also how would I go about cleaning dust off the thermal pads, since the heat sinks have been sitting on a shelf for a couple years?

Hope I made my questions clear, heh. Thanks in advance.
