I believe there's another cancer project in the works from the same people that produced the last two, but when it will arrive I don't know.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's XS's fault. They, IBM, one of the biggest tech companies in the world, were shown up by a group of enthusiasts so they put the hammer down. HARD.

IBM probably already had all the hardware needed to turn it up, they just had to install it on more PCs.

I am going to say that they are now using a whole bunch of IB Xeons each with 12 cores. Kept some of the "old" stuff running too and doubled their output.

If anyone has them already then surely they do

I'd say that if they're provoked they could pile a whole lot more on the fire than they have now. XS or 2CH would have to somehow double IBM's output to poke the stick hard enough though.

I think I know how IBM is doing what they are...The thought came to me when I put in a request for one of these today:
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...sor-brief.html
That little card can be made to work on WCG and I figure from the numbers I saw that it would
take my dualie from a max of 140,000WCG PPD to over 500,000 WCG PPD..maybe a lot more if my math is off.

Ah yes, the Phi extension cards. I've been wanting to see what those puppies can do under the right workloads ... ie WCG.

Your idea may be supported by their daily runtime

XS runtime yesterday = 6 years 103 days for approx 2293 cores

IBM runtime yesterday = 55 years and 33 days for approx 20108 cores.... << seems an unlikely number if just cpu's.... =628 Beasts

I requested today to borrow one "for a few weeks" to see what it will do in WCG and thats if it will actually work in WCG and also notice this graph..
Now imagine it with 2-12 core IB xeons..
    maybe a mil a day?

maybe not as remember IBM has tens of thousands of machines available to them
I'm just interested in getting this, then seeing if it will work at all and then at seeing what exactly will it do.
It's over $3000.00 retail so not something we are going to be buying.
More to me of just finding out the answers to the questions....and possibly adding a few million fast points to the team..

It's still possible to hit those runtime numbers with the number of machines at their disposal. Twenty thousand cores? One Z series could pop that and we'd be none the wiser. Alternately they could have just put WCG in their standard desktop image for all admin and clerical staff who barely use 10% of their system's grunt at peak. When you have as many systems available as they do it's a mistake to underestimate them.

I can't find the earlier discussion about Team IBM, but I seem to recall that back then 'team member' IBM had in the range of 40,000ish device installations, checking today that total is 146,602.

GPU is a great equalizer. When one guy can have in a desktop case as much processing power as a moderate cluster, a team of such crazies can chew through HUGE amounts of work.
