    ★4770k ES benchmarked versus 3770k ★

The Haswell 4770K and Z87 motherboards will finally be hitting the shops in early June and thereby hopefully revitalize the DIY market, which hasn't really seen much excitement over the past months.
So we teamed up with our friends over at Coolaler.com, prime OC site in Taiwan with excellent connections into the industry. And they managed to get their hands onto some early samples, so we can present you the test results you need to know whether you want to start saving your bucks to buckle up a power-rig this summmer.

We'll take a look at how the new generation HASWELL 4770K and Z77 mobos fair in comparison to the earlier Z87 with Ivybridge 3770K.
As the motherboard is still under NDA (non-disclosure agreement) restrictions, at this point in time we will only be able to introduce the performance in words, as for screenshots and test video material, we shall be adding those later in June as well.

Frankly speaking, we were truly surprised by the memory performance leap the Haswell 4770K/Z87 platform has to offer, and you know we are not impressed so easily.
Originally the Ivy Bridge 3770K/Z77 combo only allowed for memory to go up to DDR3 2800. Now with the Haswell 4770K on the Z87 you can use 4 modules of 8GB each, giving you a total of 32 GB, and even sweeter, it's DDR3 3000.

So we conducted a strenuous burn-in and overclocking MemTest in order to see how the 4770K compares to the 3777K which detailed results you can find below.

Memory overclocking setup (Overclockability is restricted by CPU quality and respective motherboard brand)

    CPU:3770K @ DRAM MODULE:G.SKILL
    4 x 8GB = 32GB Module with DDR3 2800 MEMTEST burn-in
    4 x 4GB = 16GB Module with DDR3 2800 MEMTEST burn-in

    CPU:4770K @ DRAM MODULE:G.SKILL
    4 x 8GB = 32GB Module reaching up to DDR3 3000C12 MEMTEST burn-in
    2 x 8GB = 16GB Module reaching up to DDR3 3000C12 MEMTEST burn-in
    4 x 4GB = 16GB Module reaching up to DDR3 3000C12 MEMTEST burn-in, with the possibility to achieve DDR3 3000C11 clock-speed.

Now let's have a look at the CPU overclocking performance. With the Ivy Bridge 3770K/Z77 combo, users always encountered the old annoying excessive heat problem. With the Haswell 4770K this issue isn't entirely of the table, yet with air-cooling it still remains in the 4.8GHz~5GHz range though.
For the CPU overclocking performance comparison between the 4770K and 3770K see below results (Overclockability is restricted by CPU quality and respective motherboard brand)

    Overclocking with air-cooling

With air-cooling the 3770K can burn-in up to 4.8GHz~5GHz, but heat dissipation is very high.
With air-cooling the 4770K can burn-in up to 4.8GHz~5GHz, here the heat dissipation is also rather high.
At this point in time of our preview we won't get into overclocking with extreme cooling measures, but rather leave this part to you guys to share with us at a later point in time;-)

We continue comparing both CPU generations' performance, 4770K vs. 3770K, at their default clock settings in single-task and multi-task benchmarks.
As the benchmarks don't show the motherboard information, at this point we can show you the actual result screenshots here. So let's check it out below.

Thanks my friend! look i think that While AMD does not wake up and get something that moves the floor, Intel be going to be slowly increasing its performance ... unfortunately.

Is it just my bad memory or did some other test show much less improvement in Cinebench than what we see here with Coolaler?

Sandy Bridge did it 2 years ago. My 2600K can do 5.2GHz easyly.
Hope Haswell is ready for 5GHz +

So if i were to upgrade to haswell from a 2500k, i would be looking at around 20% performance gain?

It will be around 10% faster at the same clocks I'm guessing, based on what has leaked already.

I would be interested if the integrated GPU can do GPGPU work at the same time that let's say a 7950 is connected or will the integrated graphics be disabled in that case...

I think what it will come to is the drivers... if they are crap... it'll be like nvidia... poor GPGPU perfs...

Sure but I doubt I will ever see one, even 2666c10 is rare and expensive, I hate to think what 3000 will cost (with decent latency)...

It would be around 20%, I think youve mistaken it for a 2600k whereas he mentioned going from a 2500k -> 4770k.

ivy was around 10% faster than sb, so i'm guessing haswell will be roughly around 15% to 20% faster than sb.

Ivy was 10% because it was compared with 2600K not with 2700K and next different was turbo. SB has else turbo working than Ivy Bridge (SB-E has the same)
